I have downloaded more than 2500 pictures and only 3 of them will expand and be upside down. Any Ideas?

Probably caused by original editing. Some programs do not set properties in a standard maner. Use a program such as IrfanView to see if the Exif properties (which may be set in the Image Information menu) are correct
