I cannot change the location of the Skin Folder in the Report Generator Options tab.

The "Options" tab of the "Generate Report" dialogue states:

"By default, theskins are located in the folder named "skins" where GenoProhas been installed. To store the skins in a different location, specify a new value"

Some years ago I installed ProGenoPro2b13 (beta) and created a GenoMap. The skins were, by default, installed in a sub-folder of the "GenoPro Beta" folder. I have recently tried to uninstall the beta version ProGenoPro2b13, but neither Add/Remove Programs nor the uninstall option seemed to delete all of the Beta files so I manually deleted the folder “GenoPro Beta”.

When I installed GenoPro2016, the folder "C:\Program Files(x86)\GenoPro Beta\Skins" was re-created. It contained all the skins and the path C:\Program Files (x86)\GenoProBeta\Skins\ appeared as the "Folder where the skins are located" in the Generate Report/Options tab “Browse...” box.

All other GenoPro2016 files, apart from the Skins, were installed in the default folder [ C:\Program Files (x86)\GenoPro ]

When I open my old GenoMap in GenoPro2016 the Narrative Report appears to work OK with the Skins located in the “GenoPro Beta\Skins” folder, but I believe it is desirable that the Skins be where they are supposed to be, as described in the above second paragraph, in case it causes a problem if I ever upgrade.

I moved the "Skins" folder to the folder where GenoPro2016 is installed viz [ C:\Program Files (x86)\GenoPro ] and I deleted the path from the "Folder where skins are located" Browse... box, leaving it blank. However, it always reverted to “GenoPro Beta\Skins” when I tried to run the Report Generator. The Report Generator could not find the Skins. After the changes had been made I tried closing and re-opening the Report Generator and I even tried closing and re-opening GenoPro but the path always reverted to “GenoProBeta”.

I also tried changing the path in the "Browse..." box to [C:\Program Files (x86)\GenoPro\skins\ ] but the ReportGenerator still did not find the skins.

So I have had to revert to leaving the Skins in the folder “GenoPro Beta\Skins\”

Incidentally, I see there are ten references to the folder “genopro beta” in the Registry that have not been changed by my attempt to uninstall the beta version. Nor were these entries identified as issues when I ran the registry cleaner "CCleaner".

So the question is, how can I get the Skins to where they should be and have the Report Generator find them?

Could the solution be to change all ten “genopro beta” references inthe Registry to “genopro” or might this create other problems?

My system is Windows 10 (64 bit)
I am using GenoPro 2016 Version3.0.0.2
with the Skin \{EN} Narrative Report\* (2015.07.07) {EN}

I would greatly appreciate help in resolving this problem.

Removing all instances of "GenoPro Beta" in the Registry is a good idea. If this does not work, you may as well remove all instances of "GenoPro" in the registry. This is no big deal, as the first time you will run GenoPro, GenoPro will automatically add default values in the Registry, including the default path for the report skins.

I uninstalled GenoPro on the assumption it would delete some of the surplus registry keys.
Then I deleted remaining GenoPro registry keys (with fingers crossed that it wouldn't cause problems elsewhere).
Then I reinstalled GenoPro.

The Report Generator is now working OK and the beta folder is no longer present.

I note the skins are not installed where I expected them to be, viz C:\Program Files (x86)\GenoPro, but in the folder C:\Users\#####\AppData\Roaming\GenoPro, and the latter path appears in the Options tab of the Report Generator.

There's no real problem with that and I appreciate it relates to current Microsoft standards, but I found the words in the Options tab . . .
"By default, the skins are located in the folder named "skins" where GenoPro has been installed"
. . . a bit confusing and misleading when I was trying to resolve the issue without pleading for help in the support forum.

You are right. The skins have been moved into the folder C:\Users\ to enable users to customize their skins. On many machines, the folder C:\Program Files\ is read-only or protected with administrative privileges.

The documentation must be updated accordingly.

I am glad your report generator is working properly.

In an attempt to keep the skins at a centralised and common location, I moved them to C:\APPDATA\Genopro 2016\Skins\...

and then I realised the subfolders contain a number of shortcuts to a folder called "Code". This shortcut is now broken. Any idea where it should lead to?

I could reinstall but I prefer a simple fix.

Yes indeed Narrative Report translations now share a common code folder. This approach was devised to allow all Narrative Report translations, or any other report skin, to be directly available without the need for users to download extra files and also without major revision to GenoPro.

I attempt to pass on to Dan any updates to translated skins I see posted on this forum to ensure that they are included in any updated versions of GenoPro 2016. I just edit the Config.xml file if required to reflect the date of any update. If I overlook an update please prompt me Smile

I see there is an issue if the skins folder is changed and users copy skins from the old to the new folder. This can be fixed by re-installing GenoPro as the skins will then be installed in the new folder, overwriting the copied ones and removing the symbolic link to the old Code folder.
