Hello Ron,

I would like to use this report in another language (French).

Except to translate the Dictionary.xml file, should I modify or translate another file too ? and can I just create a new Folder, with all files and the translated one's to get it ready to run it ?

Many thanks for your advice or help.

Gérard

That should work fine. There are a few messages to translate in Config.xml as well.  I assume from your profile that you are running GenoPro 2011.  Suggest you copy the skin from GenoPro 2018 as these are maintained by me, whereas those from GenoPro 2011 are not. You can install GenoPro 2018 in a different folder to GenoPro 2011 and I think you can use it to run reports even without a licence key. If not you can copy the skin to your GenoPro 2011 Skins folder.

Not sure if the Kinship skin installed with GenoPro 2018 is bang up to date there could be an update on this forum somewhere but I will be publishing an updated skins pack on this forum soon.
By Regislab - Tuesday, March 26, 2019
No I have the latest Version :
By genome - Tuesday, March 26, 2019
Good, I think GenoPro only updates the forum version you are using when you publish to familytrees or use the online backup for your .gno

If you publish the translated files here I can include them in the skin bundle.

I also recommend that when you make amendments to existing skins you use a different folder name so that when you apply an update your work is not overwritten.

e.g. perhaps {FR} Rapport d'ancetres[+]   for your version of {FR} Rapport d'ancetres
By Regislab - Tuesday, March 26, 2019
Ok many thanks, I will proceed like your suggestion w00t

However, before publishing the translated files, I would like to send it to you before, for check and go/no go, if you agree.

Let me just say how to do it.

By Regislab - Tuesday, March 26, 2019
I have almost finished to translate the dictionary.xml except one thing I do not really understand how to translate it.
What is meant with "is a cousin once twice times removed" ?
By genome - Tuesday, March 26, 2019
Your cousin 'once removed' is a child of your cousin.  i.e. one generation difference.  Your cousin 'twice removed' is a grandchild of your cousin, i.e. two generations from you. A cousin '3 times removed' is a great grandchild of your cousin.  it can be ascended or descending depending on whether you are looking up the generations or down.

Please send me your completed translation via the EMAIL button to the left of this post under my avatar
By Regislab - Tuesday, March 26, 2019
It doesn't work to send you an email as you can see below :
By genome - Tuesday, March 26, 2019
You should click the email button under my avatar as I said, not your avatar
By Regislab - Tuesday, March 26, 2019
It was what I did, but it doesn't work Ermm

By the way, PM isn't working too.
By genome - Tuesday, March 26, 2019
That is strange, I only see that error when I click my own email button, same with PM too.
By Regislab - Tuesday, March 26, 2019
Yes, very strange. I have just tried now, but it is not working again.
So how can I send you both files, for check and test ?
I have also a request to modify something, it is wrong, on the report, but I can't do it my self.

Perhaps it works in the opposite way ? Can you try to send me an email with this button, normally if it works, I should be able to respond and send you the files ?
By genome - Wednesday, March 27, 2019
I have already tried that. I get another error after composing and sending

So I suggest you just attach your files to a post here.  If they work for you there is not much I can do further in the way of checking. I certainly won't be able to check your translation.  I will however test and look over them before adding to a skins bundle.
By Regislab - Wednesday, March 27, 2019
Ok will do so, as suggested.

The check of course, is not for the translation, but for the rapport.

By the way, there is something to change :

In French, when a woman is a cousin, we must write cousine, and so the sentence, should be : Johanna DOE est une cousine de and not Johanna DOE est un cousin de

Also for the listing between the boxes, it should be read, cousin au 1er degré, or cousin au 2ème degré, or cousin au 3ème degré, and so on ...
The same for a woman, cousine au 1er degré, cousine au 2ème degré, or cousine au 3ème degré, and so on

So I'm not sure I have correctly translate this as it did not show correctly.

Is it possible to do the correction and send me again, so I check if it is correct ?
By genome - Wednesday, March 27, 2019
Are these both correct for the English  third cousin twice removed?

cousin au troisième degré enlevé deux fois.
troisième cousin enlevé deux fois.
By Regislab - Wednesday, March 27, 2019
No, unfortunately.

the terms "removed"  here, is translated physically, it means the individual has been removed and the term in french is "enlevé" but it is not what is meant.

But for the moment, I have not find the correct translation for this that why I would like to see how this appear in the translated report to see what the report show.

If it show the degree numbering or the parents degree.

Perhaps this can help you :

Sorry I do not understand that

This is more like the English kinship
Degrés de parenté : les liens de parenté selon le droit canon

Seems confusing that church and state have different ways of expressing kinship.

What I would really like to see is a french version of

I'm lucky, I have found it w00t

If you have used the English one for the English report, you can use this one in french for the french report.
By Regislab - Wednesday, March 27, 2019
Hello Ron,

By the way, I have seen that the German report seems not correctly translated too, concerning "twice removed".

I'm trying to find the same picture as for the French one, I have sent to you yesterday, so at least the update can be done also.

As soon as I have found it, I will send it to you.

Thanks Gérard.

The chart is useful to see what the report should produce and to check the result.  But still quite a challenge for me as coding changes are required to achieve the phrases needed.  Unsure
By Regislab - Thursday, March 28, 2019
Blush

you are speaking about the french or the german one ? Sad
By genome - Thursday, March 28, 2019
French for the present but I suspect German also when I look further into it.

This from Wikipedia is useful:

Well, so if the English one is correct, I propose that I adapt the French dictionary I have translated, with the document I have attached you yesterday in french then I will test it and supply you.
I'm currently preparing a document with both translation French/English, so after it will quiet easy to translate the English terms in the correct French terms.

By the way, I have found why we could not write us with the email function, it was because my old mail address was still in my profile, so I have ask to correct it, and now it is working.

So will you that we continue now with the mail, or with posts ?
By genome - Thursday, March 28, 2019
I have just tried email and it still fails when sending as before.

I have found that I need to change the script to supply extra parameters to build the Dictionary phrases for the French report as it is not a word for word translation.

I am working on these at present  so I suggest you wait until I have completed them and I'll post the updated script and Dictionary,
By Regislab - Thursday, March 28, 2019
No I have received it :-)
I will reply now.
By Regislab - Thursday, March 28, 2019
Just confirm please that you have received the mail with the attachment.
So I'm sure it is working fine now.
By genome - Wednesday, April 3, 2019
Finally after much head scratching I found a typo in my last effort on this, so I have attached another iteration of this report skin.

Note that I inadvertently included a previous version of the skin in a bundle sent to GenoPro for GenoPro 2019 and so I have amended folder name to be {FR} Tableau des ancêtres communs[++] to avoid deletion when installing or re-installing GenoPro.
