I've had a quick search of the forum and cannot find an answer, so just posing a quick question.
I know the title is " Permanent" ID, but can I be confident that ( unless I change it) the Permanent ID remains unchanged? If I copy/move a person from one GenoMap to another GenoMap, they get another Permanent ID, but if I treat the original as the master then I should be OK. The reason behind the question is I recently had a light bulb moment where I realised my evidence trail was pretty poor, almost non existent would be more to the point. What I was thinking was to use the Permanent ID of each person as a reference in my file naming convention. I'm sure like most people, I've found that names repeat in my family, particularly at certain times, e.g. Henry and George were extremely popular names when they were the Kings of England, so many relatives with the same name. Plus with me now storing that evidence I'm finding that I'm doubling up on information because of poor naming of my files which is also being caused by so many people with the same name. So, if I don't change the Permanent ID's of people, e.g. "ind01702" then I could use "ind01702" or just "1702" as a prefix for any file that I store for that person. E.g. 1702_BirthCert.jpg, 1702_MarriageCert.jpg etc. Does that sound correct?

That all sounds correct to me. As you say when you move an individual to a new genomap, its ID goes with it and if that individual has pedigree links on the original genomap then a hyperlink for it is created on the original genomap with a new ID. But to me this is somewhat confusing as visually the individual appears to be the same on the original genomap but under the hood its ID has changed. This change can be avoided by first creating a hyperlink for the individual on the original genomap (select it then press H) and move this new hyperlink to the target genomap so that now the ID of the individual on its original genomap stays the same.
p.s. you can discover which is the 'master' hyperlinked individual by checking the 'IndividualInternalHyperLink' column in Table Layout/Individuals. 'The 'master' will not have a value in this column.
