Include extra information such as achievements of an individual

I don't know if I'm stretching it too much.

Since there is included further info for a person, such as education and occupation details, I was wondering whether it would serve any purpose (I think it might) to include info such as traveling and languages. I feel it would be nice to be able to record information such as that X person spoke seven languages or that Y person traveled to 40 countries.

I don't know. Maybe this is getting out of control...

The answer for traveling will be resolved by the Occupancy record.

As far as the languages, I have to give it some thought. I don't know where to put it. Any suggestions?

I wonder how it can be accommodated there. Quite curious to see.

No strong opinion, but I would guess either (a) in a sub-section of "Education" or (b) as a sub-section of a "Skills" sheet or something similar.

I have a pretty good idea of what to do. I need to finalize the minute details.

A skills tab would work. But would this "language" thing be a drodown list, or something like the education/occupation tabs, having a "new" button, it could then include like teacher and date and place learned, or maybe just stick with naming the languages spoken for now? I don't know, it ain't up to me!

Check this site to see many languages, alive and dead, explore the site!!

About Languages

On that purpose I use the education tab.

I just make entrance about language courses which person attended. If person gained languge for itself by living among native speakers - so I put there the period that was needed to learn it.

Courses taken to master a language might work in the education tab, but what about people who grew up bilingual? They did not exactly attend a school that could be listed there.

I like the idea of a skills-tab, since it would also cover skills that a person has picked up over a long time, or taught herself - like painting or knitting. Those may not be as important, but I'd nevertheless like to be able to enter such information.

On the subject of what's to come, there are also tabs for religeous and political views planned, right? Is there any kind of roadmap of features planned for 2.1? (without specific dates, of course).

Language Courses?

What about the people that went to a book store, got a "teach yourself whatever language" book, and taught themselves by help of said book? This is why I say skills tab.

In that case I would propose to improve my idea of Hall of Fames which i posted in the other topic...

besides trophies and military medals and orders there could be everything like sport achievements and other achievements whatever you want... it just has to be structured somehow

By Satrek - Tuesday, August 15, 2006
I don't think skill achievements and trophies would fit into the same tab. While I know that there can't be an infinite number of tabs, I do think that there could be separate places to fill in skills as well as medals.

I think that it (entrance of different types of things(achievements, medals, skills)) could be done by making this one tab unspecified for only one task but to make it multipurposed...

it just has to have next fields in it (for consideration):

- Name of the record (e.g. "Skill", "Medal", "Achievement") or it could be just like radio button or like drop list.

- Name of the skill or medal. (e.g "Medal of Honor with swords II grade" or Speaking Chinese language). this field is not long

- Place (where it was)... considering parent places it would work

- Block of time data. begin end duration...

- Source (with all fields of sources included)

- Picture... there is possibility of different understanding... if it is something material - like trophy or medal there should be picture, if not - then picture should be in the source (e.g. List of honor with seals...)

- Comment (for description of the skill or the battlefield or sport competitions)

I think that there could be also recorded entrances of the military ranks or clergy ranks with all information about it because in the Occupation you enter the occupational details but not the ranks.

It would be very interesting to know if person became a Brigade jeneral 20 years old being the lieutenent... or to know that the person became a General of the Jesuit order...

Sounds like a great idea, an achivement-tab. I don't know whether a picture would be needed, that could be covered by the source, seeing how many events - skills, for one, ranks, records etc - usually do not have dedicated pictures. A diploma or such would go under source, I'd say.

Having an Achievement tab sounds a great idea.  Along the same line, I have been thinking of a tab for Writings which would include any published work, conferences, radio interviews, and TV shows.  I don't want to add too many tabs, however I think there should be a way to document what an individual has accomplished during his/her lifetime.

Could it be placed as "Sub-Tab" or "Tab within Tab" within Occupancy or some similar category?

Hello!

Again about Achevement tab

As everybody see it is a great idea because it shows what family can be proud of. So I think that it (everything - achievment, honour lists, medals, sports, publications, TV... etc everything) deserves to have its own tab... We also can say that it would be not appropriate to hide this tab within another one - it is equal to education and occupation by its importance.

In the report generator it could have its own chapter for example - "Achievement details" where they would be shown as occupation details and education details are

Back to the topic I can say that I have seen the way of the using the source tab to enter the achievements of the person. It looks good but brings some quiestions:

When the person for example became a winner of the gold medal of the Olympic Games how would you use the source tab for description of the Victory and where you would put the image of the Medal?

This question I think you will reply like this: This person was a sportsman so his profession and occupation is a ... sprinter... - Occupation tab + source of it is usable...

also for the student who won the Math olympiad in the University we should use What tab? Education?

But if the person is a shooter by his hobby and in the Games of the province won the Cup of he best shooter to the plates... which tab to use? There is no hobby tab.

And the last and the most important for me is the Military awards! if the person is the Hero of World War II and has a lot of awards, and did some glorious deeds where should I put it all?

By the way if the first ancestor of the family was also a hero of the war and its family name goes from the deed he did - where should I put it all?

And one more thing is Report... how to report the Awards and where?

I think we dont have any clear mechanism of storage of such things like this in our program and there is I think is only need to create some place for it and only for it.

Thanks for your attention.

Thank you for your suggestion.  Achievements and awards are importants.  The desire for excellence is a powerful driving force producing heroes.

I cannot give a schedule for this tab/dialog.  I will add the achievement tab along with the religion, politics and medical.

Hello!
Could you tell me when are you planning to make this functionality?

thank you!
By Mantreat - Wednesday, March 2, 2016
Hello!

I wasn't here (in the support forum) for couple of years and now I can see large changes in the program:

- New version which I should pay to have!

- No Achievment Tab yet...

Please let me know the probable date or at least period when you put it in your schedule to implement the Tab?

In previous posts I described my own vision of its importance but haven't said that all this (Geno...) is made for the goal to remember of own family and what can be more important than the achievements of persons from the Family? Son of father and grandfather and so on... is important but don't need if there only relationship without proud!

By the way It has to be the separate Tab because in the Report you 'd have to separate it to this "Hall of Fames" let's call it so.

Sincerely.
