Problem with single grandparent

The wrong narrative is generated when there is only one grandparent. For a grandfather only, the text is "His paternal grandparents were John Smith" instead of "His paternal grandfather was John Smith" and for a grandmother only, the text is "His Mary Jones" instead of "His paternal grandmother was Mary Jones".

One solution would be to change the dictionary phrase to be similar to that for parents and godparents and just list grandfather and grandmother separately instead of together as grandparents. But the result would be long-winded if both paternal and maternal grandparents are present.

I have tried in vain to get the phrase generator to process a more complex conditional like 'A and not B' in order to handle this situation. I have tried {?0&!1}, {?0}{?!1} etc. but all fail. Is it possible for the phrase generator handle this, either now in a future release?

Can you try the following:

[{?0}[{?!1} .... ]]

Yep that's it!

The grandparents phrase I have eventually come up with is now

<PhGrandParents T="{ }{\U}{!0}[[{?1|2} paternal][{?1^2} grandparents were ][{?1}[{?!2} grandfather was ]{1h}][{?1} and][[{?2}[{?!1} grandmother was] {2h}]]][[{?1|2}; {!0}][[{?3|4} maternal][{?3^4} grandparents were ][{?3}[{?!4} grandfather was] {3h}][[{?3} and ][{?4}[{!3} grandmother was] {4h}]]]]." />
Quite a mouthful but demonstrates the power of your phrase generator - brilliant!!

I'll include this in the next update to my modified templates.

Still need to sort out tense for were/was are/is .....ho hum

Ron,

I'm amazed as I thought your templates were perfect, I had got over missing parents by adding an "unknown" or "no name", but your new code is "cool"!

My site is now posted and I am looking for anomalies.
