Author Overlapping of people

There are several ways of tackling this. It depends on the source of the gedcom. Some of them can contain duplicate entries, which is confusing. I suggest

1 Open the table view (Ctrl+T)

2 Sort by First Name and Last name (click on column headings for this)

3 Delete duplicates

4 Sort on age (usually baptism but can be birth) and choose one of the oldest people.

5 Go to the Display, where that person will be selected.

6 Select Direct Descendants (not Descendant Tree) You can do this with a right click to open a menu and then open the Select sub menu

7 Put the cursor on the selection and right click. Choose Move to GenoMap and move to a new GenoMap. When this is completed go to Tools on the top menu and select AutoArrange and you are half way there.

8 There will be several places where the mate has not been moved - shown by a horizontal line with nobody at the end. Select the person you can see and press 'V'; this will move the family onto that Genomap. If there is any overlap then select individuals and drag them into position.

I have just downloaded a trial version of GenoPro and find it is very comprehensive, but may take time to learn. I have opened up a GEDCOM file of around 100 individuals, but it is a real mess - all the people overlap each other in the Map screen. It would be an impossible task to move them all around manually but I can't see how to get the map view to be readable. What am I doing wrong?

The autoarrange tool was discussed several times in this forum (Search for "AutoArrange"). If you are using the Beta version of GenoPro, you can use the "AutoArrange Selection" for more delicate arrange of your tree and avoid the over lapping.

Why is  it, when I autoformat my tree, one part of the family tree ends up all overlapping each other that I can barely read them, and another family will end up all the way seperate accross the page on the bottom. Why doesn't it spread everything far apart?
