I have been handed a .ged file which is human readable.I was just wondering where I can find a guide to how this file is structured. Some of it I can work out.
You don't have a tool to convert it to XML per chance? If you help me decode this file format, I'll write a converter to XML which you can have.I'm new to the family tree game and apologise if I am covering old ground. Thanks,Steven
The GEDCOM file (.ged) is a simple text file which is in fact a common protocol between all Genealogy softwares to import and export data. All you have to do is choose a program (like GenoPro 2007) and import the data within the file.
If you want to learn more about the structure of the GEDCOM file you can learn here.
Merry Christmas
