I've just bought GenoPro. It's a very impressive program and I'm enjoying it very much.

To, at least, some of the major characters in my family tree I'd like to add a biograhical narrative, maybe about an A4 page worth. My intention is to leaven the story with some amusing anecdotes.

I'd be grateful if anyone can give me some advice on how best to tackle this task.

There is a slightly different approach depending on whether you want to put information on a web site or just work from a local computer. As an example where I have linked to a relevant web site with biographical information, look on my GenoPro web site at http://familytrees.genopro.com/appleshaw/Beaven-Evans/ for Reginald Nevard. If you click on the label Individual Additional Information, this expands to show a web link. (Apologies about the casino advert - this is a relevant external site giving information we did not have about the death of a relative during WWII)

In my GenoPro file this is set up as an external hyperlink, and shows one method that you can use to associate a file of data with an individual. The link can also point to a different file if it is on your own PC, such as a Word Processor file.

You can also set up links within the program from the Source tab. Having opened this, you need to click on the Edit button and on the next menu is a Browse button which allows you to pick any file. When you do this the greyed out 'Open URL' button becomes live which allows you to open that file. This (normally) only works on the host PC.

Final place for information is the Comment Field. You can either write there directly or cut and paste. The advantage is that this is the quickest and easiest way of adding material and can contain a lot of information. There is no problem in publishing this on the web site as it is within the system.

This goes back to the first point - how do you want to present the material. If you publish on the web then you have to make sure that the data is accessible. One way would be to write the text into a word processor package and then convert it to html. This should be available as an option. Then you have to put it somewhere and make the links.

Many thanks for your very detailled and instructive reply. I'm going to stay with your method for linking to files held on my PC, at least for the moment.
