GenoPro, like most other genealogical programs, only provides links to external data (files or pictures etc) which keeps the file size down. I have not seen an intention to include data into a GenoPro file. We have the intention to have an option "Pack 'n Go" to include all attachments. Also, our new file format of GenoPro 2007, using a zipped XML file will allow attachments to be included to the document. On the other hand, we plan to develop this fall a mechanism to share genealogy documents with their attachments. This will be by far the best mechanism for people to exchange data and attachments.

It is not usual to incorporate linked documents into files created by other documents. There are several reasons for this, including duplicating of data on a disc; making the parent file unnecessarily large and also if the linked document is updated this will not be be incorporated into the other document. The downside of this approach is that if you pass the file to someone else you have to attach the linked documents. Many programs do support this approach, using OLE (Object Linking and Embedding). Word processors often offer the option of including an external file or linking to it so that updates are reflected in the document. GenoPro, like most other genealogical programs, only provides links to external data (files or pictures etc) which keeps the file size down. I have not seen an intention to include data into a GenoPro file.

Thanks for the replies!
I particularly don't want to store the files as a link, I want the files to become part of my Geno file.
I'll be looking forward to the new features.
Thanks.

What you can do is add a source with a link to an external file. In the future GenoPro will have a tab dialog, similar to the pictures tab, to include attachments which can range from scaned birth/ death/ marriage certificates, text documents, video clips, audio clips and so on. Can you please give me some idea of when we can expect this? I have recently returned from the "old country" with lots of documents and certificates, and have been debating whether to store them under Pictures. This would be a great solution!

A description of how to add a link to a file has been described in this forum eg http://support.genopro.com/FindPost18121.aspx It is slightly odd at first sight as you have to create a new source and then edit it to add the link to a file. But it works

Hi,
I'd like to be able to store small text documents as part of the file, attached to particular people.
I know I can paste the text into the 'comments' field in the file, but there are a couple of cases especially where I'd like to attach an actual file.
Preferably not via hyperlink, as they sometimes get lost...
Also, as this is my first post, please allow me to thank the makers for such a great programme.
