Author getting the line long enough to connect between parents

When I add "new daughter" or "new son" sometimes the line doesn't go all the way to one parent if I move that parent further away on the chart.  How to fix this, please?

If you select the parent line, you will see some little black squares appear around it. These are called handles. Simple click and hold on the one you want to extend, and drag it to it's new location. You can make it smaller as well. Hope that helps.
