Many genealogy sofware do not import correctly the GedCom generated by GenoProBeta. All relations (mariages are lost).

I personnaly tested it with Geneatic 6.

Issue is the same with most of the Beta Version (including 19c).

There is not issue with GedCom generated by GenoPro 1.19, all infos fly correctly through GedCom to the other software.

I guess there is union tagging in GedCom generated by GenoproBeta with is not recognized ...

Thanks for help.

Exporting your genealogy data to another software almost always results in data loss because each genealogy software has different features, and you get the lowest common denominator of the exporting software, the Gedcom specifications and the importing software.

Ron made a skin to export to Gedcom.  If you download the latest Beta, you should be able to generate a "report" containing a more suitable Gedcom file.

I am using 2b19e.

Where to find Ron's "gedcom skin" ? At this stage I am just using standard GedCom Export.

You can try here: http://myweb.tiscali.co.uk/ronsweb/genealogy/tools.htm. Ron wrote several tools that GenoPro users can use. One of them is this convertor.

I am no longer maintaining the stand-alone VBScript version of the Gedcom conversion utility. However as Dan says I do have a JScript/Javascript version that runs as a GenoPro skin. I have had a few teething problems with it as I struggle to learn more about Javascript but I now have a working version that I expect Dan will release shortly. It may still have the odd bug or two but I will fix any that are reported.

When I read Dan's note I took it to mean that the .ged file created when you write a report uses a different routine to create the gedcom. Testing this morning shows no difference.

Two thoughts. I think Ron said this will be a Java based routine. My PC does not load Java at start-up, only when a program requires it

Second: Dan refers to a skin and there are no additional skins in the list in my version of 2b19e. Is this another case of bits missing on upgrade?

This is quite separate from GenoPro's built-in Gedcom export, which maintains all GenoPro data in tact but does not adhere to the standard. My skin will produce .ged file largely compatible with the Gedcom 5.5. standard, so should import OK into other packages. Some packages do not support all Gedcom fields, so some errors may be flagged. It does not retain all GenoPro fields, and hence information will be lost if re-imported into GenoPro, unlike the built-in version.

It uses JScript, an MS dialect of Javascript. These scripting languages are quite different from Java. The Narrative Report uses javascript extensively when you view the HTML pages, so if the buttons etc. work on the Narrative report, you have Jscript/Javascript working on your PC.

I sent Dan one version then I found some serious flaws so I guess he delayed the release. So its down to me. I have now corrected the problems and sent Dan a revised copy.

Hope that clears up any confusion.

Ron - is your tool exporting the gno file into a standard 5.5 GEDCOM?
