Hello
Just upgraded to GenoPro 2.0.1.6 and report generator 2.0.1.6.1
I upgraded into a new directory just in case there are problems.

The pictures in the individual right hand sections shows a vertical line for each picture. All the other elements appear to be correct. Clicking on the line (picture) produces a correct picture popup. Can someone point me in the right direction to repair this?

Also, I believe that a pdf tree can be shown instead of the svg. I am assuming the the svg view is the default. Can I change this to the pdf and if so how?

Edit: Just tried the new GenoPro with my previous report generator 2.0.1.5RC8 and works fine.

There have been a number of posts on this isuue but are quite difficult to find. Ideally you need to have Irfanview (free) and Inkscape (free & open sourceinstalled. However use the latest skin 2.0.1.7RC1 here to get around this.

 You can select PDF genomaps only in the Config Parameters dialog when you generate a report, but this requires the above mentioned software.

It would be nice to have a central repository for new & revised skins so that users do not have to trawl the forum. Even better if GenoPro's 'check for updates' could check for new versions of skins that a user had installed. Smile

Thank you for your reply Ron. The pictures are showing correctly now with the new narrative.
I have installed Inkscape on my D: drive where I keep other programs. I already had Irfanview on D:
In running the Configuration window, my custom.css is no longer used. I am unable to change the setting in the Configuration window that I do in custom.css, so I loose those settings. I need to change the default addresses for Irfanview and Inkscape each time I run the Report Generator.
I set it up for PDF only. The log shows no errors. Thumbnails are created. On the individual page, on top there is a GenoPro logo. When I press this, I get a window from Firefox about how do I want to run a file. The default is GenoPro 2007. I accept this and then get nothing. I don't see any thumbnails. I don't really know where or when I am supposed to see them.

I have never been able to use the SVG display, not because I didn't get it work but because I couldn't get my extended family to install it correctly. My solution has been, for years now, to edit the narrative and include a Family Tree button which would launch a PDF viewer that everyone has. For each of my family trees I would print the genogram to a PDF Writer. This pdf file would be shown when they pressed my Family Tree button. Complicated, but works. Due to these modifications, and others, I have been reluctant to change narratives. Now with the inclusion of PDF I am anxious to get this to work.

The changes I am making in the Config window I will need to make permanent.

Well there does seem to be a bug when PDF only is selected, the GenoMap index is not included. It did work once put some later changes seem to have affected it. This is fixed in the attached skin.

You can preset any config param values by changing the default values in the Config.xml file of your custom skin. e.g. set path to your custom.css in the Default attribute of the StyleSheet element. These values can also be preset in your .gno file by creating Document Custom Tags with the same name as the config param to be changed e.g. StyleSheet. This latter method avoids the need for a custom skin when the required skin is built in to GenoPro.  You can set paths to Irfanview and Inkscape in similar ways.

The genopro icon appears next to the individual's name in the narrative report becuase you have not set the 'no .gno file' option under the Privacy tab of the Generate Report dialog and is a linkedto the cloned copy of your .gno that gets uploaded when this option is not checked.

There should be a tree icon to link individuals and families to the SVG/PDF pages (missing on your report because of the afore-mentioned bug). The individual/family will be highlighted.

Finally thumbnails are just small images of any pictures in your report and appear where your pictures would otherwise appear. Clicking on such thumbnails will display the original picture.

I only need to change 4 settings in the config.xml file. I even have trouble with all of them;
1) _PathPictures="../pictures/"
2) Set up for PDF only
3) Default location for Irfanview D:\Program Files\Irfanview\iview32.exe
4) Default location for Inkspace D:\Program Files\Inkspace\inkspace.exe

I tried to change the '?' to 'D' in the only places I could find "Program Files" in config.xml, but the report generator still didn't seem to find the applications.
I have trouble decyfering what is needed to change the Default="SVGPDF". Does the default setting require just PDF, or 2 or PDFPDF, I don't know. Just before this setting there is note:
Desc="N.B. If you include PDF you will need to run InkScape to convert SVG files to PDF before the report can be accessed correctly"
I have never used Inkspace before, so I don't know what needs to be done with it. What SVG files do I need to change?

I have a number of custom tags, but I prefer the custom.css because using the custom tags, I need to add them to all my family trees individually, where as I only need one custom.css. I have a custom tag for Stylesheet - custom.css to be able to use the custom.css.

I would like to place these 4 settings into my custom.css. By the way I have custom.css placed in the same directory as my trees.gno and appear to work without the config window.

How do I place these 4 settings into my custom.css?

I tried to enter these 4 settings into the custom.css file:

_PathPictures="../pictures/"
SVGSettings="PDF"
InkscapePath="D:\Program Files\Inkscape\inkscape.exe"
IrfanViewPath="D:\Program Files\IrfanView\i_view32.exe"

Unfortunately, They don't work. The pictures are still stored in the default location, I am not sure about the SVG setting and the report generator can't find Irfanview or Inkscape.
Obviously the syntax is wrong. Can anyone correct them please?

You appear to be confused between Config.xml and a custom stylesheet (.css) files. Your custom.css is for HTML CSS styling changes to the generated report only, e.g font size/style, backgorund images colours etc, not for configuration parameters used at the time of generation. These must be in Config.xml in the custom skin folder. I have attached an amended Config.xml with the changes you require, including setting the custom StyleSheet to custom.css. Please use the attached file to replace the Config.xml in the folder where you have unpacked the Narrative_2.0.1.7RC2 skin attached to my earlier post. This folder must be immediately below your GenoPro Skins folder (see Generate Report dialog, Options tab for its location). Please ensure you select this folder from the drop down list of available skins when generating a report.

The text about running Inkscape is misleading. The script will run Inkscape for you to convert the SVG files to PDF format.

Oops, forgot about SVG/PDF setting in Config.xml - done now.

That's much better. I do have some problems though:
1) The ages are shown even though the ShowAllAges is set to 'N' in it's default in the config.xml.
2) There is a search result screen (see Pdf_sample.jpg attached) shown on the left of the PDF genogram on the individual page. There is always one page found. How do I turn this feature off?
3) The Hebrew text under the name is incomplete (see Pdf_sample.jpg) and compare it to the correct GenoPro genogram (see Pdf_sample1.jpg attached). There are missing vowels and a character. I changed the setting in config.xml to display SVG. The Hebrew displayed by the SVG is also wrong (see Svg_sample.jpg attached). All the characters are there but are back to front (right to left instead of left to right). Maybe both the SVG generator and Inkscape are causing this since the GenoPro display is correct and printing to my PDF writer (Ghostview and Ghostscript for Windows) is also correct.

I feel optimistic about problems 1 and 2 but feel quite pesimistic about fixing problem 3 (Hebrew).

(I tried to insert the pictures into the post but can not remember how to do that, so I attached the pictures.)
Thanks Ron

Having found this thread to post in I'm surprised you did not find the answer as per my earlier post in this thread.

For thumbnails you need to have Irfanview (Goggle for download) installed on your PC when you generate a report. If you do not have it installed you should have seen a warning message in the report log.

I also recommend you install the Latest English Narrative Report skin from this forum.

If you install Inkscape as well as Irfanview then you can generate PDF images as well. Config param changes will be store in the Windows registry, but the default settings should suffice.
