I downloaded 13h the other day, to use with my story-telling (the families are HUGE). It worked fine for a little, then randomly spawned a second custom_tag tab for individual profiles that would crash the program. I managed to get that second tab deleted, and the custom_tags seem to be holding up.

But a new issue has come up with the crash. I can no longer choose the option to specify my own date under Prefs. Everytime I do, it will automatically default back to using the current one, whether I save or not before exiting the program. Nothing I've done seems to fix the issue.

Help?

(As an aside: I also selected to NOT have the message log displayed, but it will still pop up while saving. Is there anyway to permanently disable that???)

Thank you!

Dates will have more options in Beta 16.

In the final version 2.0, the Message Log will be hidden, unless explicitly displayed.

I'd actually settle for the current options, so long as it worked properly like it did, pre-crash, and like it does in the old version that I have (1.70).

Okay, that's great!

I am not aware of any crash. Can you write me the step-by-step scenario to reproduce the crash. If you have a sample file causing the crash, I would love to take a look at it. If I can reproduce the crash, I can fix the bug... guaranteed!

I'll send you the file that is giving me the headache, but here's what happened, near as I can tell:

1. Under Edit>>Preferences, choose to set your own date (enter any 4 digit year higher than our own).
2. Create a second option for custom tags for individuals in the custom tag editor (so that when you open a person's profile, you see 2 tabs for it).
3. Click the second tab. At this time, GenoPro should theoretically have a major hissy fit and close.
4. Repeat step #3, and wonder what the heck just happened.
5. Repeat step #4, just to confirm you're not losing it.
6. Figure out the problem, delete the second tab for the custom tags (so you should be back to 1 tab for it).
7. Close GenoPro.
8. Open GenoPro (now, if everything is working properly (improperly?), when you go back to Edit>>Preferences, the date should be defaulted back to the machine date).
9. If the date has defaulted back to the machine date choice, change back to set your own date, and re-enter the year.
10. Close GenoPro.
11. Open GenoPro.
12. Rinse, repeat.

Or at least, that's what happened to me. And my niece has JUST informed me that her version of 13h does the same, and she had no crash or second option for custom tags.

I'll send you my file, and if you'd like, I'm sure she can send hers too.

Thanks much!

Hi, I'm the niece. I haven't had a crash or anything go wrong with genopro beta and I cannot keep the "let me specify date" chosen. It's driving me bonkers. I have to reset it everytime I open genopro.

Thanks for reporting the bug. I have fixed it. The fix will be available in Beta 14 (this week). If you ever a crash using Beta 14, please file a bug report about it.

PS: Very few individuals use the "Specific Date". Some are historians or write novel and/or fiction books. I am curious what date you are using and what type of family tree you are drawing .

Hi,
My aunt and I use ours to keep a record or our characters families. It is so very useful for this, the best we've found so far. We do online stroytelling and run many characters and genopro makes it a snap to locate a character and find their age, who they're related to and such. The date we are currently attempting to run it under is 5082. (We use our own timeline, 5082 DWR, demon war reckoning. Being the time started at that point when all demons were cleared from the islands we write about) It can be kind of confusing if you aren't used to it.
But mainly in genopro we use the set your own date to keep track of the ages of the characters, instead of trying to go from the birthdate with each and calculate. Which was a pain before we found genopro.

I am always amazed how people use GenoPro for all kind of projects. I have some individuals using GenoPro for animal breeding, plant classification, and one guy used GenoPro to classify components on a farm (animals, buildings, machinery & equipment).
