Hi,

My niece & I both use GenoPro software to update our family tree. We are remotely located. When we put the family tree report on our website, the pictures seem to be missing.
In particular, when she updates the tree with new pictures, and generates a report to our website (via FTP), all of my pictures that were originial present, do not show up at all. However, when I manually go into the FTP site, I see that all of my (original) pictures are physically present in the "\pictures" directory in addition to the new pictures that she added.
The same thing happens when I take her .gno file & add new pictures to it.
The question is: Is it even possible that two people update the same .gno file & put it up on the website or only one person has to do that?

Thank you.

This is an excellent question.  At the moment, there is no easy mechanism to have multiple users editing a family tree.  We have plans to include a built-in feature in GenoPro to edit family trees (with pictures) on our server.  Our first implementation will use a single lock mechanism where only one user at any given moment could checkout (edit) the family tree.  Each users would take their turn to checkout the file, and GenoPro will transparently synchronize & download the modified file(s) to make sure all changes have been replicated to each participating user.

This interface will be as simple as publishing a genealogy report to http://familytrees.genopro.com.  In a nutshell, you will click on the menuitem "Save to GenoPro.com" and GenoPro will upload (save) your family tree (.gno file and its related pictures) to your account.  To have others view and/or edit your family tree, you will have a dialog to enter the emails (or usernames) of people having read and/or write access to your family tree(s).

This feature is very high in our priority list.  The bulk of this feature will be written by my brother Jean-Claude, who also wrote http://familytrees.genopro.com/.  Later we will improve this feature with a true multi-user interface with security, auditing and rollback.  This improvement won't need a lock since our server will merge the records, thus allowing multiple users to edit the same file simultaneously.  You are welcome to read Multiple users editing the same genealogy tree / merging for more details.

Excellent idea.  As part of this process, please be sure to give the owner override capability. In the first instance, let the owner undo a "checkout" of someone else.  This would be useful when some remote relative checked out the document and forgot to return it back to the server.

In the second instance, when multiple people will be able to update the tree, there should be a mechanism whereby final approval may be defined by the owner (if s/he so chooses when originally uploading the document).  This can be similar to the concept in http://support.genopro.com/Topic5780-58-1.aspx whereby a check mark would indicate "to be reviewed"
