I have several individuals that I have found on census databases. they are "about" birth years that are +/- 1-2 years. i wish it were possible to designate a birth year as "Circa 1890" instead of "1890" FIRM.  Is this possible and i'm just missing it or do I have to leave it in notes. I would really like to see something like "c. 1890" displayed on the actualy tree.

Thanks in advance!

-Sean

Yes indeed. If you are using the Beta version of GenoPro 2.0 , or even GenoPro 2.0 proper in a day or so's time, just enter the date prefixed with ~. e.g. ~1890.

I tried following your advice; I entered a ~ before the date but the date still displayed as 1830 instead of ~1830.

I'm using Genopro 2.0.1.6.

Any ideas?

The default setting is to show only the year(no details). You can change this in the display setting by switching to "Date of Birth and Date of Death".

I don't understand.

In the Properties window, in the General tab, in the little window to the right of "Date of Birth", I've entered "~1830".

It displays as "1830". No tilde mark is showing.

You have to go to the main menu, not the individual properties, and select the "Display" and from there select among the sub menu the "Date of Birth and Date of Death".

Wonderful!! Thank you very much!

(Surely it's about time for someone to write a thoroughgoing manual, no?)

You can also use a date such as <1843, where you have a baptism record but do not know if the birth was the same year.

At the moment, GenoPro only displays the year above the gender symbol (square or circle).  The approximate date is available in the properties of the individual, however not (yet) on the family tree.

Last week, I have been working on new code to display the date of birth and death of death.  Somehow I forgot to update my code to include those modifiers ( ~ < > ).  I will add them for the next update at www.genopro.com/monica/
