I have received a private message from a contact who followed the link on a familytrees web site. Having composed a reply I find it can not be sent as the contact does not have a GenoPro account/username.

1 Can you find the address of the message timed at 2.07 pm

2 Can a note be added to the web site advising non-GenoPro members to use the email option, not the private message

I looked into the database and I can see an "anonymous" message send to you, however this message cannot be identified and its source is unknown.

We purchased this forum from InstantASP, however we found design flaws in this forum.  One of the flaw is the private message system which relies on the username for sending private messages, instead of using the internal database ID.

So far, we have made some modifications to force the user to set a usename, because we were receiving many private messages from people without a username.

Thanks for checking; as I thought, no contact details. I suggest that you amend the text on the Contact Author page to add:
'If you wish to receive a reply, make sure the message includes Contact details'

I think that the problem is in the option to let an unknown, unregistered user send a message, without providing any details about himself.

I got several such messages without any ability to reply.

Is a registerd forum user is only one who purchased GenoPro?
If not, then I think that any user who wants to send messages must be a registered first.

That's what we attempt to do.  We fixed the code to create a dummy username, from the database ID, so there is at least some way to contact the user.  There are many ways of registering and sometimes a new user end up without a user ID.  This is one of the reason why I disabled personal messages for my account.

This Contact page does not help a casual user who comes to the site, through for instance Googling a name. The letter icon then takes them to the page where they can send the author a message - to which he can not reply. This is going to give the author a bad reputation, which will also reflect on the site. (I have had two such messages so far)

I suggest that the text on the Contact page, which at present is:-

To find the author of a publication, just enter the URL the HTML page you are viewing. If the author is found, you will be re-directed to the author's user profile where you can send the author an email or a private message. It is highly recommended you write a descriptive email subject with the specific HTML page you wish to discuss.

be replaced with:-

'To contact the author of the publication, whose URL is shown below, Click on the 'View Contact Info' button and if the author is found, you will be re-directed to the author's user profile. You can send a private message but if you are not a member of the forum, the author can not reply; in this case use the email link. It is highly recommended you write a descriptive email subject with the specific HTML page you wish to discuss.'

Thank you for your suggestion.  Having a form to enter more information about the page when contacting an author is on our "todo" list.   The "todo" list is quite long and sometimes we "forget" to update the priority of a suggestion.
