Actually the online backup DO NOT backup the pictures... only the .gno file.Yes you can backup on a CD/DVD. Just write the files like any other documents.

I did copy the only file I have, a .gno file which contains pictures, to a CD. The pictures did not come through. Is there another file that contains them? If so, how do I get to it?

The gno file does not contain the pictures, only the reference to them. If you look at the size you will see that the file is too small to contain any images.
The easiest thing to do is to create a directory eg GenoPro and put the gno file there and also the pictures. If you have your pictures in a different directory (folder) then there is a utility in the GenoPro tools menu to help you assemble the files in one folder.
Then you just need to copy the folder (directory) to the Cd

This is a good suggestion. This year, we plan to introduce a new service for online collaboration. This service will be capable to store a .gno file with all its attachments (pictures), so you and your relatives can access your family tree from anywhere. A side effect of this feature will be a backup of your entire family tree, including pictures.
