Hello all,Recently I had a relatives party and we have picture of whole family who came from different places... In the program we can add a picture to the Work record directly, to the Education record directly but there is no place where to add the picture of my party... I wish I had to be able to see the pictures in the program and then in the report like it's done in other places (education, occupation). thanks.

I think a Social Entity is the right object to represent a party, as you then then use Social Relationships to connect to it each person attending the party. But unfortunately at present you cannot directly associate pictures with it. I have in the past privately requested this feature in GenoPro. Perhaps Dan can deliver it as part of the Gamma development. For display purposes you can display the picture within the Social Entity box. Currently this is via the 'trick' of setting text to picture="picID". But I am finalizing a revised skin that uses Custom Tags instead. I will post this very soon. The picture must be associated with some other object (e.g. contact, source, place etc) for this to work.

Ron (7/2/2008) I have in the past privately requested this feature in GenoPro. Perhaps Dan can deliver it as part of the Gamma development.GenoPro Gamma already supports unlimited pictures for all objects, including labels and social entities. The reason this feature was not added to GenoPro 2007 is to honor compatibility. The last thing is having people loose data when using different updates of GenoPro 2007. I really don't mind adding for version 2.0.1.6 (I just need to modify a single line of code).

I think that Social is the right object for this purpose if I want to represent only one party which I'd have to connect to all the participants... But there is a better way to represent where I was and with whom if I could be able to add picture to the Contact informatione.g. Place: World exhibition Somewhere (I was there for example from 1/1/08 to 10/1/08 with my son and with somebody else from my tree and have a picture of that and right after that we went to vacation with my son but this person went home... so at the vacation I have pictures with son)... For us with son next place is vacation for this person home. On purpose to make it easier to fill in the data you did that I can pick up the records of the "contacts and adresses" so if this contact/address unites number of persons it should: 1. represent data about it, 2. represent visual information which gives at once understanding where and who and how... Of course you can say that we can use for this purpose field Source and put there picture as a source but in this case this picture won't be displayed in the report in the right place (only in sources)...

Yes your explanation makes it clearer and I agree 'Contacts' is better. Contacts can be shared and perhaps I should change the report to list other individuals sharing the contact.I find the title 'Contacts' misleading and I often forget its fuller title and use of Contacts & Occupancy. Perhaps this object is overloaded and should be split into two distinct objects, a 'Contact' in the PIM (Personal Information Management) sense with telephone, fax, email, home page, place, source and comment, and an 'Occupancy & Travel' object with place, source, date from, to, occupancy type and comment. It could encompass journeys and even migrations by allowing them to be chained together rather like hierarchical places and sources, except instead of parent place/source it would have a 'sibling' or next occupancy/travel reference. The occupancy type 'accommodation/travel' should also be separated into accommodation and travel types. It would be good if a destination place property could be added as well for journeys & migrations.

I am crossing my fingers this won't cause compatibility issues and nobody will loose data exchanging files with earlier versions of GenoPro. If you download and install http://www.genopro.com/download/InstallGenoPro.2.0.1.6.exe again, you will get the changes and it will work better. Version 2.0.1.6 is much orthogonal. By the way, the social entity and the label have the same tags, with the exception of the social entity having contacts.

Hello!I think that it is very good thought that Contact objects should be hierarhical because it is sometimes messy when there is indicated that an individual was in Paris from 1.1.01 to 5.01.01 (it is first row of table) during that he lived in hotel in Paris "from - to" and at relatives' "from - to", (and besides that he was in Louvre and somewhere else)... for each place - own record with indication of time but to understand that person leaved PARIS before returning home (not the last row in order) you have to come back through the table to see where he really was (and the same with report - when you see a lot of places and it is good if you know that all of them are inside Paris). Besides that there could be implemented all what you said in your post about "sibling way" of next occupancy/travel reference. Only thing is to make two sublevels of hierarchy (one for containing subplaces within one time period, second for tracking of the transfers from one to another (with mechanism of easy input of all individuals who participated in this travel/migration - e.g. to check who participated before enter of data (creation of record)) and checking of the dates connection (e.g. individual cannot be in Paris if he is in Ottawa in other record).

Mantreat (7/15/2008) I think that it is very good thought that Contact objects should be hierarhical because it is sometimes messyImplementing hierarchical objects cannot be done for GenoPro 2007 for compatibility. The contact list is somewhat hierarchical as GenoPro uses the most recent contact to determine the value. Say you change email, you only need to create a new contact with your email, and GenoPro will use the previous contact(s) for the other values. I added this suggestion to my todo list and will see what can be done. By the way, I added the pictures to the Contact object - it will be available on next update of 2.0.1.6.
