I have put GenoPro on my laptop which uses windows vista and when I try to generate a report, it stops halfway through with this message -
"Error at line 25 (genomap.svg): ActiveX component can't create object: 'ADODB.Stream'
Microsoft VBScript runtime error 800A01AD".
Can anyone help please? The report generator runs OK on my old desktop computer which runs windows xp.

If you put the error number into the Search on this forum, or into Google, you will track down the solution

This is the first time I have seen this particular problem, so maybe you will not find it elsewhere.

The cause of the error is hard to determine but a likely cause is a Windows registry corruption. As I understand it ADO (ActiveX Data Objects) was until Vista part of the MDAC package (Microsoft Data Access Components) but in Vista it is part of the OS itself and is known as Windows DAC. So it is not possible to re-install 'MDAC' to repair it.

You could try re-registering the dll that handles ADODB.stream. This has to be done as Adminirator. Click Start, All Programs, Accessories then right click on Command Prompt and select Run As Administrator. Type the following command and press Enter

regsvr32 "C:\Program Files\Common Files\System\ado\msado15.dll"

Let us know if this helps.

The ADO ActiveX component is only actually required in very limited circumstances, i.e. when thumbnail pictures are produced and one or more of the pictures are stored on the web (accessed via a URL http://... etc. as in the Harry-Potter sample .gno) as it is used to store a local copy of the picture in a file that IrfanView can access.

So if all else fails as a work-around you could create a custom skin and edit genomap.svg in that custom skin to either remove or comment out lines 24-28 if none of your pictures within your .gno are linked via a URL.

Hello, I tried this at the command prompt and another message came up - The module "C:\Program Files\Common Files\System\ado\msado15.dll" was loaded but the call to DllRegisterServer failed with error code 0x80070005.

Is it possible I cannot generate a report because all the linked photos are not on my laptop?

The report should still generate even if some or all photos are missing.

The error you are getting from regsvr32 indicates 'access denied' and will occur if the command prompt is not running with elevated privileges, e.g. you did not use 'Run As Administrator'. when starting the command prompt.  Did you follow my instructions?
