Dear Ron

Ref "Descendants_2.0.1.7RC5" (english version) I downloaded 15.7.2009.

I'd like to ask (see attachment file) why eg. point 1.1. there is a text

"Mickel married Katariina Thomasdr. Riski..."

but in point 2.2.

"Roosa was born on June 16th..." althoug Salomon and Roosa were married and there is also a family line in GenoPro.

Shouldn't here also be text "Salomon married Roosa...."

There are several cases where the spouse is missing and of course the text "nnnn married xxxxx...." and I don't find a reason why?

Best wishes, Jarmo

The only reasons for this that I can think of immediately are

  1. There is no 'Union' recorded for that family
  2. and no relation type has been set in the Family Properties
  3. or the Family is marked as 'make label/exclude form report'

If none of these apply then I will need to see the .gno file or at least the relevant section of it. If you don't want to post it here then you can use GenoPro's File/Send feature to send it to me via GenoPro.

Hello Ron!

Thanks for your quick reply.  The reason why I haven't recorded the Union or its Type (in case of every family) is that:

a) I know (or I'm pretty sure) that certain persons have been married but

b) I don't know the Union type or date.

Anyway there is a family line but now I realize that this is not enough.

Now you are saying that I should, in addition to family line, also define Union type and date although I don't know the details in order to get this report corrected in this respect?  BR, Jarmo

No, that is not the case. You can just set the Relation to Marriage under the General tab of the Family Properties dialogue. A Union record is not necessary. If the Relation is left blank the Report will not show anything.

Hello Ron!

Thanks for you kind answer.  I think I described my problem insufficiently.  What I meant was that because I don't know (for sure) what type of relation the two people had ie. I don't have information were they really married or in some other sort of relation (lived together, engaged, etc.)  Now I understand that this report is designed so that in order to get spouse information you have to give Family/General/Relation type = Marriage, although I'm not sure or don't have confirmed information.

Initially I thought, that if there is a family line, it indicates certain people beeing in 'some sort of relation', both 'spouses' will be in the report.  Now I know better.  Thanks for your guidance (again Smile).

Best wishes, Jarmo

As per my previous post, if the Family is marked as 'Make Label/Exclude from Report' then it will NOT show in the Report. The GenoPro Report Generator will remove it when cloning the .gno to be passed to the Report skin.

Only mark a Family in this way if you have a 'dummy' family line on one of your Genomaps because you want to show the marriage/relationship on two or more maps. This is a bit of a 'hack' to get around the problem that GenoPro only supports hyperlinked individuals and not any other object. The 'real' family line must not be marked 'Make Label' unless you want to exclude it from any reports.

Instead of creating a dummy family line you can 'draw' the extra family line using the arrow tool, but this will not get moved with the individuals since it is not actually connected.

Hello Ron!

Is it possible to re-design the report so that also Union type that are not defined "Married" could be included eg. when Union exists, saying Union type = Undefined?

As I noted before, I don't know the details but I'm 98,5% sure that certain couples were married and therefore don't want to register it as Married.  BR, Jarmo

You can create a Union Custom Tag called 'NarrativeStyle' and give this values to indicate the type of 'custom' Union. You then add custom templates to Dictionary.xml to define the narrative you want to appear in the report. The current English Dictionary.xml has some example custom Union narratives - see phrases  and PhUnionTxtEngagement, PhUnionTxtLivingTogether and PHUnionTxtFirstMeeting corresponding to Union NarrativeStyle values of Engagement, LivingTogether and FirstMeeting respectively.

You could add your own 'ProbableMarriage' NarrativeStyle and create the phrases PhUnionProbableMarriage/PhUnionProbableMarriageTxt with suitable text. The PhUnionProbableMarriage/PhUnionTxtProbableMarriage phrases can be stored in Dictionary.xml (i.e. using a custom skin) or alternatively in a Document Custom Tag within your .gno file.
