I have several worksheets, contained in three different workbooks. Is there a way to automatically update information from one worksheet/workbook to another? I think I understand how to create hyperlinks from one worksheet to another within the workbook, but how can a correction made in one worksheet/workbook be made to update within another worksheet/workbook on the hard drive? Thanks Jim L White

Jim From your use of the spreadsheet terms workbook and worksheet I am guessing that you have more than one .gno file which contain several GenoMaps. The structure looks like a spreadsheet and I think some of the underlying code uses spreadsheet functions. If you have the same person on different GenoMaps you will have seen that any alteration in one place is transferred to the other if the individuals are linked by the Internal Hyperlink. You can also use External Hyperlinks to link an individual in separate files. However as the files are distinct, alterations in one of them are not transferred to the other. The link could be to a file owned by somebody else (I have never tried that) but could also be to a read-only file. I suspect that you would be better putting all of your information into the one master file with many GenoMaps.. If you need to have a limited set for a particular purpose you can always extract data by copying it to a new file. However always work on the master so that the basic data is up to date.

Hope this is on topic ...
I'd like to maintain one Master .gno file with: -One genomap for my father's family tree (the K family) -One genomap for my brother-in-law's family tree (the J family) -about ~50 genomaps for my mother's extended family trees (A through Z families)
Is there a way I can generate 3 separate reports from this one .gno file that pulls relevant data from the entire file, but doesn't reproduce everything? I don't want to maintain 3 separate files -One report for K family ... pulling relevant data from J and A through Z families -One report for J family ... pulling relevant data from K and A through Z families -One report for A through Z families, pulling relevant data from K and J families
How do I do this?

What sort of hyperlinks do you have? External hyperlinks link and individual in one ,gno file to another in a different .gno file. The data for each is not shared, it is purely a link. With Internal hyperlinks only one copy of the individual holds the data, the hyperlinks to it are simply links to the single data source. When you create a new family member it will not automatically appear anywhere other than on the genomap on which it is created. You must create any additional hyperlinks required.

'pulling relevant data' is obviously the tricky part. I am guessing that what is needed is a tool that, for a given selection of individual (e.g. all on a particular genomap or set of genomaps), selects all ancestors and descendants of those individuals and then creates a new .gno with that subset, from which a . Currently no such tool exists. Ancestor and descendant tree selections in GenoPro do not cross genomap boundaries, if it did then a select, copy and paste approach could be used.
All that is available at present is ancestor reports and descendant reports for selected individuals.report can be generated.

Would there be a way to include a custom tag that would filter individuals out of the entire file?
- everyone tagged with a K (or in the K column) would be incorporated into the K family tree and report
- Similarly, those with J would be churned out in reports for my brother in law's family,
- and D (or whatever) would be for my mother's side.

Yes I think that is quite straightforward. Simply open the Table Layout View for Individuals, sort on that custom tag, Select all rows with the required tag value, inverrt the selection (Ctrl & I) then delete the selected individuals i.e. those not to be included in the report. Generate the report then 'Undo' the deletions. May be safer to carry this out on a copy of your .gno, just in case you accidentally save the file before undoing the deletions.

Ok great .. a little extra work to tag everyone, but less than maintaining separate .gno files :-)
