Genealogists like to work with crisp logic. You are the child of your reputed parents and in this way genealogists are similar to lawyers dealing with inheritance. In family history (even in modern times) things are not so clear cut and uncertainties are known, even if they are not published.
In my own family tree I have John Clarke who married at Methwold in 1799. The registers of this parish do not contain a possible birth.
3 miles away in 1760 there is the baptism:-
"John the Son of the basewoman Eliz: Clark by Jno.
Hubbard the reputed Father was named Sept: 18 &
publickly bapt: Sept: 21"

So John is possibly the son of Elizabeth Clark and the father was probably John Hubbard.

GenoPro, along with other genealogical programs, can not show this. We do at least have the options of Biological Child, Adopted Child or Foster Child. As the concept of foster child did not really exist in these times I use this link and change colour to make it stand out. The upcoming addition of showing Comments in the tooltip will also help here. However one disadvantage of using the Foster Child relationship is that it breaks the link in the Report Generator.
What is needed is a way of expressing the reliability, or probability, of a pedigree link. The concept does appear to be within GenoPro with the concept of Data Level which is described as
"Number representing the variety of data in the object.  A value of zero means no meaningful data.  Each object has its own policy to compute the data level."
This number is not user editable and seems to be at a higher level than an individual piece of information ie at Individual or Family level. However if the concept could be extended to the Biological Child link then this one link could be modified according to the confidence level.
In a modern context I know of a woman who suspects that her Biological mother is the sister of her family mother. Also there are cases where the father of a child is not the family father. Whether this information should be put on a family tree is a separate matter; the fact that the idea exists would be important in medical/psychiatric studies
I did think of using a Custom tag in this case but to be useful it would also mean modifying the Report Generator.
Has anyone any thoughts on alternative approach?
