I'm really enjoying using GenoPro and find it to be quite user-friendly for the most part. I do have a couple of questions at the top of my mind after using it for a while.

1) This one is really bothering me. When I use AutoArrange, it is overlapping branches of the same family. For example, it puts the second wife of Person A, who has 7 siblings, all the way to the right of Person A's last sibling, which causes all the children of the siblings to become overlapped and difficult to read. Is there a way to make AutoArrange keep all branches together?

2) How would I show both the marriage date and the divorce date on one connector between 2 people? Is this possible?

1. The AutoArrange has limitations and bugs.  One way to get around is to split your large family tree into smaller GenoMaps and hyperlink them together.  You can also AutoArrange the selection (such as a branch of a family tree) without AutoArranging the entire tree.

2. The Family Relationship has a "Label" where you may enter any text, such as "m. 1999, d.2011".  If you need more custom text, feel free to use a Text Label where you may type anywhere in your family tree.

I use the display to indicate date and you could extend this to record marriage and divorce. To get to the image shown here I added an extra Family Line and then used the 'Link as Parent' to create this display. If you do this I suggest that you only fill in the details on one of the Family Links (horizontal line) and on the other open Properties, click the Summary tab and then click 'Make Label/Exclude From Report'. This will improve the Report.

Thanks for the suggestions! Regarding my second issue, how does that technique once you add children of the union? I'm thinking that I might not be able to do what I envision. I currently have the Display set to show First and Middle Names. For the marriage line I copy the marriage date and use that as the label. I was hoping that there was a way to just add another label under the line with the divorce date or something.

For my first issue, here is a high level view of what I'm working on (I'm not sure how this is going to look on here):

The person noted with the red A is the eldest sibling of B, C, etc. all the way to E. When I include A's branch his second wife is shown all the way to the right of D, which means his children are all overlapping the rest of the tree. Is there an easy way to make A fit into the tree? There is still going to be a lot more information for A's siblings that I haven't added yet, but I don't want to have to keep doing the same manual adjustments over and over. For the short term, I want all these people to be visible on one document.

And why is E being put so far to the right? Can't the software just force everything else to the right to allow everything to fit where it should be?

On your first point, you either use two family lines, which is really a Display 'cheat', or use Dan's note and write the data into the marriag/divorce family line. It is only coloured for divorce, as you can not have a divorce until a marriage.
If you do use two lines there are no problems in adding extra children; select the marriage line and add children there. You have to do this if a second mrriage takes place, particulary if both of the original partners re-marry.
On your large family there are several comments.
One way to link A is to select him and press key 'H' to create a hyperlink. Move this near the parent's family line and select 'Link As Child'. Add to the family line and then select the top blue square and drag to the left until the pedigree line is vertical. (If it is not vertical then the point is fixed and will not move if you try to move A).
Second point is that 'E' is not a sibling but brother-in-law. I agree that the display looks untidy here and it is recognised that Auto Arrange is far from perfect. I think the problem is that there are so many possibilities to consider that the task of improving it is enormous. I look at it as a first step and have always adjusted manualy to get what I want. I would select all of the display between E's wife and D and drag to the right and then move E's family into the gap.
If you want to keep a large family on one display, avoiding the advantage of GenoMaps, then you need this sort of approach with hyperlinks. George Sture (~1684) on http://familytrees.genopro.com/appleshaw/Steer/ had 10 (at least) children and the families of his four sons are shown on the same display with hyperlinks. (Not my original data, so apologies that the daughter families are not listed)

Thanks for the feedback, appleshaw; I will play around with your suggestions and see what I like. I was really hoping that AutoArrange was the end-all, be-all of the process, but I can see that it isn't. It does do a good job with smaller data sets, but once you really start expanding multiple generations it gets a little quirky. I will just be careful about my manual adjustments, as I'm still rather new to the program and when I tried to do it before I had a hard time getting the eldest sibling's branch to link in nicely with the other members of the family. Time, practice, and patience!

Having a sizeable tree myself and having assisted many people in starting theirs, my advice would be to forget autoarrange and just set up your tree manually. Playing around with autoarrange just leads to frustration and time wasting as chances are you will not end up with the tree which is visually appealing to you anyway.

I have just finished helping a friend with 2000+ individuals manually arrange his tree and it really wasn't that traumatic.

I never autoarrange.
I do use the hyperlink a lot. If a tree is getting clogged up I put the wife's tree in a new genomap. Very convenient as it is also a new family name..

My advise: use hyperlinks and create genomaps..

Is the word "heterological" autological ?
