When entering a name in the Place box (eg Birth or Contact) the list of previous options is shown and gradually narrows to possible selection., as you add more letters
When you edit this (Ctrl+E) and make the selection for parent place, a different procedure is used. I find this very frustrating - partly because I m not a good typist. This procedure tries to be helpful by jumping to the a place and selecting it. However if you pause while typing it starts again- using the letter after the pause as the initial letter of the place name.  So typing 'MIDDL  E" would lead to Essex not Middlesex.l You can start with another 'M' but the alternative procedure would be preferable.

I agree with this wholeheartedly!  I am often frustrated by this in the Sources dialog when I try to pick a parent source.  I name many of my sources in hierarchical ways (e.g. US Census - 1940 - Pennsylvania - Pittsburgh - District 212-3 - pg 12) with each level being its own source (e.g. US Census, US Census - 1940, etc).  I have many of these nested sources and trying to find the parent would be much easier if the combo box worked the same for "Parent Source" as it does for other things (Like names, etc).
