Hi!

I am a research assistant working on a research project in the anthropology department, and we have a few questions

1. Can you import data from excel into GenoPro? We've assigned unique ID numbers to everyone in our survey and are currently in the process of entering all these numbers, including any links between them, into a spreadsheet. Is there any way to import this data into GenoPro?

2. We have several instances of fraternal polyandry where the wife/mother won't reveal which brother is the father. Is there any way to plot this on GenoPro?

GenoPro can export to Excel but cannot import from an Excel spreadsheet.

To denote polyandry, just add multiple spouses with a comment about concurrent relationships.

The easiest way to import Excel data into GenoPro (or any other genealogy software) is to first coerce the data into Gedcom format.  This requires a reasonable level of knowledge of the Gedcom format and perhaps some skill in Excel macros or Excel functions.

1. So either create a new sheet in Excel and use a macro the create the sheet as Gedcom data and export as text, or use standard Excel functions to manipulate the data into rows where each row is a record and the columns are Gedcom tag lines.  Then export as CSV using say tab as separator and after export edit the data to replace tab by newline to form the Gedcom text file.  

The ease with which this can be done depends on the structure of your existing data.  If you publish here I may be able to offer more further advice.

2. Regarding polyandry (I had to look up what it meant!) , GenoPro allows a child to have multiple pedigree links

so for the case you give of fraternal polyandry you can have  (I have used foster child pedigree links here purely to have dashed link lines).
