I have a file on CD with nine family trees on it that I uploaded to my new pc, but which is blank when opened, even though the info re the file states it contains 707MB..
for some reason the file is marked "program.exe" instead of genopro file.. it was changed in 2008. Can I retreive this info?

At 707Mb I very much doubt that it is a GenoPro file you have.  707Mb is about the absolute maximum file size you can get on a CD and too large for GenoPro .gno files.

There is a possibility that program.exe is an archive of your files as a self-extracting zip file.  Do you recall creating such an archive of both .gno files and photos?  If it contains photos then this may explain the large file size.  I suggest that you copy this file to you hard drive and ensure that you check it for viruses.  Then execute program.exe by double clicking on it.  If it is a self-extracting zip files then running it should unpack the files into a folder and you can then look for .gno files.
