Is there a way to do this? For example, find all records with dates between 1800 and 1850. The algorithm for fuzzy match is too broad, and there seems to be no other way to look for something other than a single specific value. Hopefully this (and correct handling of BCE/CE dates) will be addressed in the new version... so maybe I should have posted this in Feature Requests. :-)

Unfortunately GenoPro 2016 does not have a search dates by range, however you may use the Table Layout (Ctrl+T) and sort the table by date, which will group all dates within a range together.

Thanks for the quick reply. :-) What about BCE/CE dates? This is a major concern for me, as I work extensively with ancient genealogies.

The original GenoPro, launched in 1998, was storing dates as the number of days from a date, however this approach was problematic for partial dates, such as "November 2015" where a day or month is missing from the date.  GenoPro 2007 (until GenoPro 2016) is using a different technique by storing the year, month and day with a mechanism to know which values are missing with a provision for negative (BCE) dates however the code for this was never written.

GenoProX will implement dates slightly better, with the option to store the date with its original calendar, which will include the epoch (AD, BC, etc) and will have a built-in routine for date comparison for sorting  purpose.  Also, the date format will be able to capture an age at a given time: for instance, there are many people using GenoPro for building genograms in therapy, and one of the question is "how old are you?".  If the patient answers "30", then GenoProX will record "30 years old on November 2, 2015".  It is incorrect for GenoPro to assume the date of birth was 30 years ago, therefore November 2, 1985" because the patient could have been born in 1984, and still be 30.  What is known for sure, is on November 2, 2016, the patient will be 31 years old.  This is the spirit of GenoProX to be able to record accurate information without making estimated guesses about dates.

Thanks for the detailed reply; I'm a recovering former Web programmer who has taken a lot of courses in "real" programming but never done anything serious since some text-based game applications in my early high-school days, programming in BASIC on an Apple IIe. Your response reminded me of something else I'm hoping to see in the new version: indication of estimated dates, shown differently from cases in which the exact year is known but not the month or day. Having estimated dates appear in a different colour, or with some other formatting marker, would be very useful.

You can precede a date by ~ to mean about. Also where you have a baptism but not a date of birth use < before the Date of Birth
