I no longer seem to be able to export my GenoPro files to the older free version Beta 13 h so they may be emailed to and viewed by relatives using the old free software. Has backwards compatibility been lost?

If your family only want to view, not edit, the files there is no need to downgrade the data set. Send the gno file and also a copy of GenoPro.exe which will act as a viewer.
The only difference, which might confuse some people, is that they have to associate the gno file with the program. This can be done by putting the links in a batch file
GenoPro.exe yourfile.gno
Hope that helps - and works
Probably a simpler way, if the PC has installed an earlier version is to replace the old file with the new one. The link should still work

Can you say a wee bit more about batch files? And what are links for that matter?
I know how to associate a file with a programme - right click, open with. But, what is this batch file and what are links? And the simpler way, I don't understand at all. If whose pc has an earlier version of what? And replace what file with what file? I used to just get the family member to download the 13h beta and then I would export a 13h beta version of the tree and they could open it and look at all the data under the names. And that is all i want them to be able to do. Not edit. Thanks and apologies I am so non techie...but I do use Gp daily and promote it to everyone I know or teach or give talks to.

If only want to let your contacts view the file, but not edit, you need not restrict them to the earlier versions. The GenoPro program can be just used as a viewer of the file.
Ask your contacts to download and install the latest file from http://www.genopro.com/InstallGenoPro.exe.
It is possible to keep the earlier version by putting the new version in a separate folder eg GenoPro16
At installation a screen is first shown requesting a registration key. By clicking the box to request an evaluation version you move to the next menu which says you are restricted to 25 entries. This sounds to be a killer but only applies to new blank files. I have just tested this on my laptop and loaded a file with all my data.
Batch files are text files containing a list of commands that can be processed. They have the suffix.bat. If you create a text document using Notepad
GenoPro.exe familytree.gno
and save it in a file such as tree.bat then typing tree will open GenoPro and load the file (assuming you all in the same folder/directory). This sort of thing is useful when putting things on a disc as you are in control of directories and by putting the bat file in the autoexec format it can be made to run automatically when the disc is inserted. Does not sound as though you need this sort of thing. email the file is much easier
