Is there a way to align cells horizontally?
For example, I have a string of 8 children horizontally.   I would like to "highlight" them and have them aligned horizontally to one another. Is that operation possible?
Thank you for your time.

Thank you for your response Appleshaw,

Unfortunately, when I attempt your instructions, I have to undo auto arrange selection because with my genogram, the feature distorts the relationship of the siblings to their spouses.  (Spouses are a few grid blocks below their mate on my genogram).

I would think there would be an easy solution to highlight individuals horizontally to align them in height on a line or vertically align individuals to right or left justified on a line.  If this is not possible, I would have to align each individual separately to make sure they align with siblings and other siblings from different generations who are on the same line; which would be very tedious work.    I had used a genogram platform years ago which had this feature and it made it quite easy to align members of a family member horizontally and vertically to those on the same line giving the genogram a very neat and organized look.

This relates to one of the things I would like to see in an improved AutoArrange... the ability to specify custom horizontal (between individuals) and vertical (between families) spacing in the AutoArrange process. I use a standard horizontal spacing of four grid squares (200 units) between individuals and a standard (minimum) vertical spacing of eight grid squares (400 units) between generations, with the family lines as close to halfway as possible while avoiding family line overlap. Unfortunately, this means that I have to arrange everything manually, but the number of multiple marriages in my larger genograms mean that I'm doing that anyway because of AutoArrange's failure with such things. What this really means is that I spend 90% of my time on formatting and 10% on research instead of 90% on research and 10% on formatting. Hopefully GenoProX has some improvements for us in this regard.

Edit: This relates to my thoughts here.

Everyone has different ideas about family tree display. I prefer to arrange by date and use other features, such as colour coding, to indicate them. This is not genealogical but for family history. This illustrates, for example, that my wife is the same age as her father's cousin, not his nephew.

I was not sure what you were trying to achieve so limited suggestion to your query. An alternative to produce a better starting point is:-
Select parent
right click
Select Descendant Tree
Right click
Select Mate
AutoArrange Selection

Personally I then have to modify the tree if there is more than one child as the convention is to draw two horizontal lines in that case

Can you all please include a sample pic of your trees to show your design/layout rules?

I also like having a consistent layout in my tree and it is time consuming work. I need to do a complete Re Do of my tree, but I am reluctant to start until I finalize my layout rules ... and would love to see what you all do, in case I prefer your layouts over mine.

There is also a research paper (I'll find the link) that uses "spring-loaded weighting"  to distribute descendents, so the tree is not cluttered in some areas and sparse in others when auto arranged.
