Hi there, I'm using a free version for trialing purposes before I purchase

I have found the custom tags so useful. I think its great, however I've noticed the customs tags are specific for the gno file that it was created in. Is there a way to make cutom tags permanent so that they are available for every new gno file?

I also have a few more questions please.
a)Saving to external storage
Does the trial version of Genopro not allow for saving to external storage? I dont seem to have this feature available in the File menu option. When Im ready to purchase the Genopro, how much online storage space am I allocated??

b)  Data extraction
I would like to extract certain fields from a gno file i.e  first name, last name DOB etc for reporting purposes. How or what is the best way to extract the data? Please help

The features in Genopro are FANTASTIC!!

You can simply copy ANY single object, e.g. a label, from a .gno with your custom tags to another .gno and ALL the Custom Tags from the source will be created in the target .gno

a) What exactly do you mean by 'External Storage' ? The following could all be described as external storage.

A .gno file is a zipped XML file. GenoPro File Menu has an Export to XML option to provide the data in a format more accessible to other software.

Also there is an Export to Gedcom Report (don''t use the built-in GenoPro one).

You can use the 'Online Backup' option to save your .gno files in on GenoPro's servers.

You can also generate a report that produces SQL scripts that allow you to create SQL database Tables and import rows of data to
them.

You can use GenoPro's servers to store your .gno files (Online Backups) and reports produced by the Report Generator.  There is no fixed quota but I guess reasonable use applies.  I suspect most server space is actually consumed by images used in the reports as many users don't understand the need to resize images for use on the web.

b) GenoPro's Report Generator is the easiest way to extract data.  Take a look at the script for the 'Birthday Listing' for a simple example.  see also https://www.genopro.com/sdk/

As all the data is in XML format there are many alternative ways to access it e.g. using javascript in a browser.

Thanks for your help. Much appreciated. How do I keep customised tabs that I've created so that every new .gno file I create, retains the customised tabs. I would like to create a template that retains customised tabs.

External storage
Thanks for the info regarding the storage space. How secure is the server? I have looked at the "Save to Database" option under File menu in Genopro. I'm using a trial version. I can see other peoples saved gno files in the list. (sorry no screenshot provided). I like the idea of saving to database, however please tell me that IF and WHEN I invest in purchasing full versions of Genpro, for business, that the server is secure and no one else has access to my files.
Also thinking of using a third party backup and file sharing in cloud as an alternative if Genpro  servers dont meet my requirements. So far I've looked at Google drive and MS Onedrive. Any suggestions? What I want to achieve is to have a centralised cloud service whereby staff members can access a shared customised gno template from anywhere in the world. I love that Genpro offers online saving and backup, however I'm just not certain that its secure and the only way to access my online saved or backup data is by viewing it in the  File/Open Online Backups, which doesnt provide for much play. Finally, what is the max storage if I purchase a copy of Genopro?

Many thanks

Although you cannot create a 'template' as such you can however simply create a read-only empty GenoPro file that has the required custom tags defined and place it in a shared folder somewhere. Users can open that file, add their data and save as a different file. Obviously you could create several such 'template' files if required.

Not sure what trial version of GenoPro you are using but the latest version GenoPro 2018 has no 'Save to Database' menu entry. A much earlier version did have a prototype save to database see https://www.genopro.com/sdk/External-Storage/ but essentially saves files in an online file system like another cloud storage system.

I am not a member of GenoPro staff and cannot guarantees regarding security, but it is based purely on username and password and so depends on how strong a password the user has.  Single factor authentication such as username/password is not the strongest security. But GenoPro's Online Backup does not provide for sharing between a group of people without sharing passwords and that is a definite no-no when it comes to security.

I suggest Google's G Suite for your staff.

You should also be aware that GenoPro in its current form is not being developed further.  GenoPro staff have been working on a new product, GenoProX, for more than 3 years however it may be another year or two before it is released. see https://www.genopro.com/GenoProX/ It does have the collaboration features you appear to need.
