When you click on 'Generate Report' from the Tools menu, the panel that is presented has a number of buttons but the four I am concerned with are OK, Cancel (this changes to Close after a report is generated), Generate, and Close. The action of the Generate button (produce the report) and the Cancel button (no action) are self-evident, but it is not clear exactly what happens when the other 2 buttons are pressed. Before the report is produced, do OK and Close have the same effect (ie save the settings and close the interface)? After the report is produced why are there 2 Close buttons?
Another annoyance is that if you go to another tab, eg to set the Privacy functions, only the bottom row of buttons is visible, and many times I have pressed the OK button only for the interface to close.
My suggestion is to re-arrange these buttons so that they are at the bottom of the interface, and restrict the buttons to Generate, Save, Cancel (changes to Close after report generated), and Help.
One other annoyance is that on the Privacy tab the setting for the 1st check box (Delete All Living Individuals) is remembered from one session to the next if the OK or Close buttons are pressed, but the 1st sub-check box (Keep Names) is not.
At the moment, the dialog Generate Report may be used to generate many reports in a row and clicking on the Generate button does the job fine. Using the OK button would dismiss the dialog right after generating the report, preventing the user to view the log.
I will investigate what can be done. I think it is possible to hack those buttons and do something else with them. Edited: Friday, February 24, 2006 by GenoProSupport
You obviously found the hack . The report generator interface in 15g is much improved. Thanks. Edited: Wednesday, February 22, 2006 by GenoProSupport
