First of, congratulations on Genopro 2007!Because I use the program to chart a fictitious family line using an invented calender, it would be very useful for me if I could use 'negative' dating. At the moment Genopro only accepts dates from 0001AD onwards. I would find it very useful to be able to use BC dates as well. Any chance on this being implemeted? Regards, John

Our original plan was to use dates from 9999 BC to 9999 AD. Supporting different eras (BC, AD) was postponed due to lack of development time. The release of Genopro 1.00 was in June 1998; making GenoPro 2007 almost a vaporware.

You can enter BC dates as a text string eg '234 BC'. This will be flagged as an incorrect date by colouring the box pink. The date does not display on the GenoGram but does appear in the birth column of the table display. Not sure what else you want to use it for. The column can be sorted into 'date' order as long as you are consistent in how the text string is entered

I mainly use the genomap to create my family trees, and for my fictitious family several of the characters (I use the program to keep track of the characters for my writing) straddle the BC/AD divide. It would be very nice to have a character who was born in 34BC and died in 27AD have the birth and death dates and age at death all displayed correctly. At the moment it only displays the death date (and the age at death if I manually type it in).

One other option is to use a custom Tag, which can be set to be the default display instead of YoB+YoD.
Ron's utility would have helped here but the tag changes in the latest version mean it will not work until it has been updated. What you could do with this utility was to put a date in the baptism field which produced a custom tag showing approximate date of Birth and of Death, if known.
However if there are not too many entries, you can create a Custom tag and put your data in it directly, eg 34BC - 23AD

GenoPro 2007 accepts approximative dates with ~ < or >. As for the sunset, it cannot have been part of the original plan since I learned it as I did the Hebrew calendar. Next time I am revising the code for date & calendars, I will include the midnight/sunset option.

GenoProSupport (12/22/2006) As for the sunset, it cannot have been part of the original plan since I learned it as I did the Hebrew calendar. Next time I am revising the code for date & calendars, I will include the midnight/sunset option.1) Meanwhile it may only be a semi-automatic SEPARATE binary field (V) to preceed each date (especially before death dates). 2) Under this problem, you may also note the possibility of a PARALLEL display of the international date and the national (e.g.:Hebrew) one. In this context, I've already suggested you to keep the dates under GENERAL folder also as international ones, while under BIRTH/DEATH folders they'll be presented acc.to the USER's conversion request. 3) Anyway, international date changes ALWAYS at midnight, and ... Hebrew date changes ALWAYS at sunset (therefore same date language comes always together with same day change time) ! GenoProSupport (12/22/2006)GenoPro 2007 accepts approximative dates with ~ < or >. 1) What happens with such dates (~,<,>,BC,AD) in case of conversions ? 2) Inconsistency: BC isn't displayed on genograms, while ~ does ! Thanks again, Alfi 2007

Alfi (12/22/2006) I will include the midnight/sunset option.
How about the quarter/half year periods, or what about the estimated between two dates?
