I have been trying out the new forum to see how it compares with the earlier version. Initially I had problems when moving to a new topic as there were no posts there. They were only visible in the latest post panel. I have downloaded Flash 10.1 and this now behaves as expected - or has the forum been updated?

One thing I have found is that the 'Latest Posts' are not the latest. In this panel you get taken to the first listing of the topic at the top of a page. Not sure what happens if the topic runs to several pages. To get to the latest posting you have to use the link from the main page.

I have found that the flags in the main listings indicating new posts do not get cleared after a visit. Only the flag in the Latest Post list.

The Message limit appears to have been increased from 50 to 100. However I can not see these as clicking the Message link starts to open the page but gets no further than the loading symbol.

In August, we upgraded the forum and since then we have been working on fixing many things.  Fortunately, Ryan Healey, the developer of this forum (http://www.instantasp.co.uk/) is responsive to suggestions.  I already sent him 2 pages of suggestions and he was very happy with them.

I have waited a while in the hope that teething problems with the new forum would be sorted out. Unfortunately several issues remain.

Private Messaging still has problems e.g. accessing 'Sent Items' has the spinning disc forever.

The 'Search' defaults to 'Any items' rather than the previous (I think) All items, necessitating the use of 'Advanced Search' to find anything useful. Some times the section containing search results is collapsed rather than expanded. The + and - symbols to collapse/expand that section are tiny and easily overlooked on my netbook screen, and so I have mistakenly assumed that there are no results. This also happens with 'Recent Posts', which on a casual glance suggests again no results, until I see the tiny + symbol indicating the list is collapsed.
Not all the toolbar icons when creating a post have mouseover tooltips (e.g. spell checker) and so their purpose is not immediately obvious. e.g. I was looking for the old 'Spell Check' button until I eventually spotted the 'abc' icon.

What is the difference between 'New Reply' and 'Quick Post' buttons? Where is the 'New Topic' button when viewing a post? 'New Topic' is only available when viewing a forum index. This will lead to many more 'off topic' replies than we already have.

The main issue is that it seems to be very much slower than its predecessor. May be users are struggling with the above and overloading the server with multiple searches etc.?

I normally use Google Chrome as my browser (fastest and leanest?) and a major plus point for the new forum is that I can now add pictures using Chrome Smile

The PM bug should be fixed by now.

As for Ron request to, by default, search with ALL words rather than ANY word, it's also done. When I get time I will add a "re-search" with any term if no result showed up.
