Hi NiKo,

Your error is different form the one originally reported here and one that I have not come across before.  Could be down to a problem MS Scripting install.

Try this taken from http://support.microsoft.com/kb/949140 to ensure scripting components are registered correctly.

You are running a 64-bit version of the Windows operating system, and you receive the error message that is mentioned in the "Symptoms" section while you are using the 32-bit scripting components
  1. Click Start, click Run, type cmd, and then click OK.
  2. Type %systemroot%\syswow64\regsvr32 %systemroot%\syswow64\vbscript.dll, and then press ENTER.
  3. Type %systemroot%\syswow64\regsvr32 %systemroot%\syswow64\jscript.dll, and then press ENTER.
  4. Type %systemroot%\syswow64\regsvr32 %systemroot%\syswow64\dispex.dll, and then press ENTER.
  5. Type %systemroot%\syswow64\regsvr32 %systemroot%\syswow64\scrobj.dll, and then press ENTER.
  6. Type %systemroot%\syswow64\regsvr32 %systemroot%\syswow64\scrrun.dll, and then press ENTER.
  7. Type %systemroot%\syswow64\regsvr32 %systemroot%\syswow64\wshext.dll, and then press ENTER.
  8. Type %systemroot%\syswow64\regsvr32 %systemroot%\syswow64\wshom.ocx, and then press ENTER.

Step:

1.  Done
2.  Done .. passed
3.  Done .. failed .. got error code 0x80004005 .. but upon searching, said it's for Windows XP .. I'm running Windows 8.1?
4.  Done .. passed
5.  Done .. passed
6.  Done .. failed .. same error code as above
7.  Done .. failed with error code 0x80040201 . seems to be related to Outlook PST file corruption.  I don't use Outlook
8.  Done .. failed with same error code as in #7

I read the MS Support article you linked to above ...  It did not seem there was an option to Download and Reinstall Windows Script for Windows 8.1.  When I tried searching on Windows Script in Windows 8.1, I got the reply "Hmmm…we seem to be experiencing technical difficulties, but we’re working on a solution right now. Please try again later."

Ok just clutching a few more straws now.

Tried this on my 32bit 8.1 and for example got same error in 6 unless I ran command prompt as administrator.  (Start, click search and type the word 'command'.  Right click command prompt icon and chose run as administrator).  scrrun.dll happens to contain the scripting file system object that is failing.

Also hope you are not running or have run Symantec/Norton Security.  Historically this has messed up scripting.

I am running Norton .. I disabled it, and still got the error.

I had Norton on my machine last October 2014, and had no issues uploading my tree.  I think I was running Windows 8.0 then, and had the previous version of the Narrative report.

EDIT: I re-ran the command lines above as Administrator, and Number 3 and 6 passed, while 7 and 8 failed.  Will try to generate a report again. Fingers crossed :-)

EDIT 2: Report failed again.

Ok for now let's assume VBScript is installed Ok , I mentioned Norton as it has a Script Blocking feature that changes Registry entries. these are not reset by re-registering the dlls

So could you try dropping the attached file genomap.htm into your skin folder replacing the existing one and trying the report again.  This will give additional info in the Report Log to check things are working as expected.

Essentially genomap.svg generates temporary files containing the svg image.  These files are read by genomap.htm and included in the report page.  With your error the script is failing when attempting to open one of these temporary files.

Ok, I replaced the genomap.htm file with the one you attached above, and the report ran one line further.  The output I got was:

[59.95] Processing template 'genomap.htm'...
_Professional Political Philanthropic and Military Organizations/8/
Session value 'svg' missing for _Professional Political Philanthropic and Military Organizations
Error at line 67 (genomap.htm): Invalid procedure call or argument
    Microsoft VBScript runtime error 800A0005

The rest appeared identical, except for the initial lines:
[0.00] Processing template 'init.htm'...
Merging Config.xml version 2014.10.24 into ConfigMsgEN.xml version 2015.01.18.
Report Skin version 2015.02.09

so no temporary svg file is being produced by the 'genomap.svg' script for that particular GenoMap.  Is there anything unusual about it? Does it contain any drawing objects?

I have tried with empty genomaps and one with no living individual etc, but cannot reproduce this error.  I can of course change the code so that if there is no svg then that genomap is ignored but first I want to understand what the conditions are that produce this error.  Thank you for your help and patience while I struggle to get to the bottom of it.

How do I determine if there are any drawing objects?

The file is the same one I've been working on since 2007 ... The only "new" thing I've started doing with it since the last report generation is adding New Households by selecting a few individuals, right clicking, and selecting New Household.

Previously, I was using the "New Horizontal Line" to draw boxes around Households, since I couldn't figure out how to get the Household functionality to work.

I have large Labels on each genomap, but they've been there for ages.  There are a 100+ pictures, but I don't think I've pasted any on the actual genomap.

I appreciate your help :-)

EDIT:  I deleted the one Household I had created, saved the file and tried to generate the report.  Got the same error again:
[64.42] Processing template 'genomap.htm'...
_Professional Political Philanthropic and Military Organizations/8/
Session value 'svg' missing for _Professional Political Philanthropic and Military Organizations
Error at line 67 (genomap.htm): Invalid procedure call or argument
    Microsoft VBScript runtime error 800A0005

Sorry for the delay, been busy with grandchildren.  Still puzzled by this.

I presume the Report Log shows genomap.svg being executed immediately before genomap.htm.  Does the problem occur with the Harry Potter sample .gno?  If it does not then it would imply that genomap.svg is silently aborting for some reason with your .gno.  If HP does fail then perhaps it is an issue with 64 bit Windows.

If you could possibly send me a sample failing ,gno either via Private Message (PM) on this forum or from within GenoPro using File/Send then I may be able to track the cause of the problem, however I am unable to test on 64bit Windows.

No worries, I totally understand.

I've generated reports with 64 bit Windows before, and didn't have a problem generating the Harry Potter sample file.  Below is the report generation log from the Sample File.  I think the 178 errors are due to the 90 pictures I didn't have on my hard drive.  Here's a link to the report generated:
http://familytrees.genopro.com/Niko/HarryPotterTest/default.htm
I'm not sure the statements at 222.34 seconds of the report generation are relevant.   I will email you the genomap file I'm having problems with.
I deleted with "..." approximately 88 pairs of errors twice from the report summary.
