This is probably in the wrong forum, and I'm sorry for that, but, hopefully if there is a better forum for it a mod would be kind enough to move it. I didn't think it really 'fitted' anywhere, so here it is...
Ok, on the website, there is a page called "European Dynasties" - http://familytrees.genopro.com/vlepore/DYNASTIES/default.htmIt says that there's a link to download a genopro file of it. I would really like a copy as I have a lot of European royalty in my genogram and this may help me flesh it out. I'm hoping it might save me a lot of work... Anyway, when I download the file, all I get is a file with a whole mess of horizontal relationship lines, but no actual people. I usually use Chrome, but re-read the page prior to posting this and as it specifically says 'in Internut exploder' I went and found IE on my system and tried it in that, too, but it just kept crashing IE and saying (Not Responding)... Help would be very much appreciated... Thanks
There's so much excitement to be read about in history - even just your own...

Heh. I use "Internut Exploder" normally, after certain things about Chrome and Firefox became more irritating than IE... but IE has recently put some renewed effort into the irritation department, and I may be switching back... probably to Firefox, as I find Google's general Internet strategy to be overly invasive and commercialist.
Edit: I tried downloading/saving, and directly opening, the file, and I got the same results. The list view comes up normally, so the people are there in some form, but I got strange behaviour when I tried to click on a person in list view to go to them on the genogram. I think the file may be corrupt.

The original file is FamilyTree.ged which can be downloaded from the Homepage. Not know the author of the file.
The file containing 65507 individuals and 27143 families, it was imported with some difficulty in GenoPro in a unique Genomap. Consequently it is practically unreadable in the genomap of GenoPro. The function Autoarrange of Genopro does not work with a file so big
You should read the FamilyTree.ged file with another software or importing into GenoPro a section of the gedcom file, by looking the branches of the family that interest.

Something I've just noticed revisiting this file is that the hyperlink that claims to offer a GEDCOM download won't actually do that; it opens the GEDCOM file in the browser window, but won't actually allow you to download and save the GEDCOM file; "save link as" prompts you to save a HTML file, not a GEDCOM file. This is beyond frustrating, as the GEDCOM file takes far too long to open fully in the browser and then there is the issue of memory concerns trying to copy and paste the contents to Notepad via the Clipboard. If this link could be fixed to actually provide a download-and-save of the GEDCOM file rather than an automatic-open-in-browser, that would be far more useful.
Many thanks.

Thanks! For some reason, my browsers (and I tried with a couple of different ones) all want to open .GED files instead of saving them. I'll have to check my file type associations again, and see if that solves the problem.

re: GenoMaps
Formerly, a name which is linked to an external Genomap, would display a "blue" square in the lower-right corner, as a visual reminder of same. The current release seems to have "lost" that feature... or have I inadertently turned-off that "marker"?

Thanks for the tip. About 60,000 of the 65,000 are ancestors and collaterals to Queen Elizabeth II, of England. Roughly 5,000 names aren't connected to her, but are "related" via the collateral relatives. Alas I've found that the database holds a very many (MANY) errors - from incorrect European names & surnames - to invalid European place-names. (I lived 17 years in Europe, was married to a French gal for 27 years, 3 of my 4 kids live in France, as well as all 6 (soon 7) of my grand kids. I speak 7 languages (no brags here): am simply qualifying myself as a competent judge of the "quality" of the GEDCOM. For example, almost ALL of the French surnames which should read as: "de Bourgogne", etc. are entered (incorrectly) as: "Bourgogne, De". Alas... -RCK www.KUHMANN.com Delavan, WI.
