Errors in themes of the Narrative_2012.09.08

(Windows XP and Windows 7)
I have tested all themes of the report Narrative_2012.09.08 and see these errors:
http://support.genopro.com/Uploads/Images/73b3b268-d1d4-4aeb-8d91-6ce2.jpg
http://support.genopro.com/Uploads/Images/4d2521c6-9591-46cf-a1d4-34bd.jpg
In folders 'images' of the all Reports there are always these files from Default theme:
pane_top.jpg
curvycorner_tl.png,
curvycorner_br.png,
curvycorner_tr.png,
curvycorner_bl.png, (and others).

The only time I have seen something similar is when the browser cache has not been cleared. Try using your browser's Tools/Internet Options menu to clear browsing data and then refresh the page. I believe the report generator is creating the correct images. I think that by default a browser checks for newer versions otherwise uses its cached version. The default theme 'curvycorner' images have been updated most recently so will not get replaced in the browser unless the cache is cleared.

Hi Ron!
New result.
1. Browser cache is cleared (IE, FF, Chrome).
Report settings are removed from Registry by regedit.
But this still appears in Narrative_2012.09.08 and in new v.2012.09.18 and not appears in Narrative_2012.08.14 (see first post).
2. I has opened test page http://familytrees.genopro.com/HarryCaper/Waltons_testing/ in IE, FF and Chrome, and save it on my disk.
Part of this copied image from familytrees.genopro.com:
http://support.genopro.com/Uploads/Images/a1ae3c18-c9ed-4fc5-947b-c6de.jpg
But when I have opened these saved pages in IE, FF and Chrome I have seen it:
http://support.genopro.com/Uploads/Images/82bc2037-ba72-499b-a4d9-25bf.jpg
3. My friend has helped me and has opened Waltons_testing page in Opera, Safari and FF (My friend never used GenoPro).
The same result is received in FF and Safary as first image. But in Opera this page opens as second image without an ornament...

Hi Alex,
I am struggling to reproduce your error. I tried first publishing with Default theme to http://familytrees.genopro.com/genome/Gaunt/default.htm and then republishing with GreenLeaf theme. Initially the pages looked like the first example in your first post, but when I cleared the browser cache (Chrome) all was correct.

However I have republished the skin as version 2012.09.19 with timestamps on the theme images adjusted to ensure Default images are older than the other themes just in case this is the problem, as I cannot see why 2012.08.14 should work and 2012.09.18 not. Could you please try with this skin.

Regarding your last post, I can't explain why HarryCaper's example has the wrong banner. I get the same page as you.

I also downloaded it (complete web page) and it appears that Chrome at least does not then correctly reference images referenced via css, only including images from the html.

I was messing around with the waltons_testing tree - it shouldn't be considered a "good" example of anything.

The issue with the default images not being overwritten by the theme images is one I've had since themes were introduced. I know Ron has looked at this but wasn't able to reproduce it. I'm running Windows 7 Enterprise 64 bit. I've reinstalled the operating system several times (for unrelated reasons) and have experienced this issue consistently - with local reports, with online reports, with updates to existing reports and with brand new trees. I assumed it was just me, and have been manually copying the theme images in.

I wonder whether the banner being missing is something to do with the menu wrapping - this pushes the banner down a line. Can you increase the size of the header frame - you should be able to grab the frame border and drag it downwards.

I've updated the waltons_testing tree with the latest version of the report, and turned the frameborders on so you can try resizing the header frame (I've also manually copied the copied the theme files in.)

Example of the effect of window width on the visibility of the banner strip :

By genome - Wednesday, September 19, 2012
Well I have found another way to reproduce the issue raised here. If the Resume Report checkbox is ticked

http://support.genopro.com/Uploads/Images/ec5d8cdd-3224-4674-856d-d09d.png

then the effect can be observed e.g. http://familytrees.genopro.com/genome/Gaunt2/default.htm

This is because the Default files are copied first and then the chosen theme images are copied but with this option set they are seen are already existing and not copied.

Is there any chance that you have this checkbox ticked?
By HarryCaper - Wednesday, September 19, 2012
In my case this option is definitely UN-ticked.

I've just regenerated the Waltons_testing report. Previously it was generated with the Acorn theme (with all the right image files manually copied in), and this time I've used the DNA theme.

The corner image files are now yellow from the Default theme, but the banner is still the Acorn banner.

(btw switching from Acorn to DNA - the corners switch from gif's to png's - Acorn uses gif's with a transparency to accommodate the colour gradient)

I am really struggling to understand what is going on here. Why I can I reliably create the report correctly but others cannot? Crying

I have just published version 2012.09.20 of the Narrative Report where I have attempted a 'sledge hammer' approach to fixing this. Because I need to cater for the case where the skin is embedded in GenoPro.exe (sometime in the future) I cannot easily fine tune which files are copied so now I am trying: 1st copy selected theme files, then copy Default theme files, so if files are not being replaced (i.e. bug) this should leave required files in place. Finally copy selected theme files again so if bug is not triggering then selected theme files will overwrite default.

Also has a couple of other changes to prevent superfluous files being copied to the destination folder (theme samples and ConfigMsgXX.xml files)

It works for me Smile but then it always did BigGrin

Thanks for testing Alex. Still wish I knew why it worked for me and not you.

Slight issue with 2012.9.20 in that theme samples are missing - will fix soon.
By Alex - Tuesday, September 25, 2012
Hi Ron.
Possible else two bugs there is in Narrative_2012.09.20.
1. If update report in the same folder (and only in the same folder) but with other theme - appears similar problem (no such problem in Narrative_2012.08.14).
If update report in other folder - no problem.
http://support.genopro.com/Uploads/Images/4f961563-8a4e-4376-a024-b790.jpg
Update please your report http://familytrees.genopro.com/genome/Gaunt/ with other theme without changing directory (for testing).
2. Navigation Menu in Help page is not translated in all themes with text menu. In themes with icon menu - no problem.

By genome - Tuesday, September 25, 2012
1. I updated http://familytrees.genopro.com/genome/Gaunt/ with the Default theme and initially the heading graphic was still GreenLeaf but when browser cache cleared all was ok! Did notice that the script copies the Default theme twice which is unecessary but that's another issue. So maybe the old bug is still lurking. Could you please publish a similar report on familytrees and see if there is a difference?

2. I assume you are using a private Dictionary.xml as the one at http://www.genopro.com/translation/narrative-report/ is quite old.

What does your Dictionary.xml have for the following tags?

    <FmtHtmlHelpNavIcon1 T="Navigation Icons" V="2011.10.27+" />
    <FmtHtmlHelpNavIcon2 T="The Navigation icons are all in the top left hand corner. Hover the mouse over an icon for information on its function.{\br}{\br}

                            {0h} If you find yourself a little lost the Home icon will take you back to the beginning.{\br}{\br}

                            {2h} One way to explore is to use the Name Index which lists everyone, grouped by surname. Clicking on a person's name will bring up a page with their details.{\br}{\br}

                            {3h} Similarly there is a Family Index.{\br}{\br}

                            {1h} Perhaps the easiest way to get started is with the Family Tree diagrams. The Tree icon will take you to them.{\br}{\br}

                            [{?4}{4h} This icon will display a Google map showing the locations associated with people in this report, but only for places where the author has provided latitude and longitude coordinates.
                            The icon {5h} following the name on individual, family and place pages will show map of locations associated with that individual, family or place.]" V="2011.11.04±" />
    <FmtHtmlHelpNavMenu1 T="Navigation Menu" V="2011.10.27+" />
    <FmtHtmlHelpNavMenu2 T="The Navigation menu is at the top. Hover the mouse over a menu item for information on its function.{\br}{\br}If you find yourself a little lost {0h}{2}{1h} will take you back to the beginning.{\br}{\br}
                            Another way to explore is to use the {0h}{4}{1h} index which lists everyone, grouped by surname. Clicking on a person's name will bring up a page with their details.{\br}{\br}
                            Similarly there is a {0h}{5}{1h} index.{\br}{\br}
                            Perhaps the easiest way to get started is with the Family Tree diagrams, you will find an index of diagrams under {0h}{3}{1h}.{\br}{\br}
                            [{?6}Clicking on {!0h}{6h}{!1h} will display a Google map showing the locations associated with people in this report, but only for places where the author has provided latitude and longitude coordinates. The icon {7h} following the name on individual, family and place pages will show map of locations associated with that individual, family or place.]" V="2011.11.04±" />

1.Yes, Report familytrees.genopro.com/genome/Gaunt/ with the Default theme without bug (IE, FF,Chrome). Thank you Ron.
But I see bug in my test familytrees.genopro.com/Alex/GauntTest/ (first report was with default theme):http://support.genopro.com/Uploads/Images/c55d7427-2a0c-44d0-a5df-0034.jpg
Noticed once again that the files banner, curvycorner and etc. are not changed in folder 'images' in the Report (local disk) after generation new report with other theme in the same folder . It is necessary to delete old report every time (checked on three PC, Win 7, XP, browser cache cleared ). Sad
2.Sorry, this is my error. Blush
I use last Dictionary.xml, but has not translated phrases FmtHtmlHelpNavMenu1 and FmtHtmlHelpNavMenu2.
By genome - Wednesday, September 26, 2012
OK thanks.

I have asked for Dan's help on issue 1. I assume the problem lies within the GenoPro method ReportGenerator.FolderCopy but it is a complete mystery to me why it works for me and not you and others. I am assuming that is does work Ok for someone other than me. What is different?

I have just put the GreenLeaf theme back over the top of the Default theme on my test again and once cache cleared (Chrome) all looks ok again.
