I was reminded of this while going through the Problem Spotter and fixing a "children with the same date of birth should be twins" message. The twins are the last children born to the parents, and as a result, the family line extends to the second twin when it should properly end at the twin connection point (the apex of the triangle). I'm guessing that this is one of those little imperfections that we'll have to live with, but if there's any way at all to avoid this in GenoProX, I'd love to see it.

I forgot to mention; there are two easy ways to avoid it (but neither is desirable for formatting reasons):
1) rearrange the children out of birth order, which the new Problem Spotter doesn't like;
2) move the mother to the far right end of the family line past the twins, which might make finding spouses difficult in a large and complicated family tree (you could move the father, too, but then you're creating issues with the Problem Spotter again);
Oh, and I should say that I love the Problem Spotter (just in case people get the wrong idea from the previous comments). I have a *very* large and complex genogram that I'm currently cleaning up manually (because AutoArrange just doesn't do the job when multiple spouses are involved, but we're discussing that here), and I have a large number of overlapping family lines and occasional overlapping individuals; I'm now able to clean all that up... slowly and methodically, not automatically yet, unfortunately... but progress is being made.

Another possible bug involving twins that I discovered... I commented on it here (sorry, I couldn't figure out how to link directly to a specific post (it's post #36617), but it's going to the correct page), and I've quoted my post below for convenience. Hopefully I don't wear out my welcome with all of these issues I'm raising.

Trying this out raised another small issue that is probably better discussed in "Bug Reports" but I'll keep it here for thread flow. I have an aunt and uncle on my dad's side who are twins. When I select myself and "Direct Ancestors" in my tree, the twins marker for my aunt and uncle is selected. To me, this shouldn't be happening; the fact that my father's siblings are twins has nothing to do with my existence. This may be happening because of how GenoPro stores the twins marker, but I don't know how the code works (and it's been ten years since I did any serious programming, so I probably wouldn't understand the code anyway).

I checked this behavior with myself, since I am a twin with a twin brother(fraternal), but can not confirm this. Selecting the parents of my son selects me and my wife, not my twin brother, regardless whether he is identical or fraternal twin.
Selecting an ancestor tree of course the twin brother is also selected as a sibling.

Sorry, my description was far less clear than I thought.  I took a screenshot of a sample tree to illustrate. A picture really is worth a thousand words sometimes. Selecting the red-filled individual, I did "Select Direct Ancestors" (not "Ancestor Tree"), and the screenshot shows what was selected by the program (note the twin marker is selected, but not the twins themselves); this also illustrates the family line display glitch when a pair of twins are the youngest children, as I mentioned in my original post.

Thanks for the screenshot. The routine selecting objects is a bit complicated in GenoPro. GenoProX uses a totally different approach and this kind of behavior will not happen in GenoProX.

I've suspected this to be a complicated routine for some time, primarily as a result of dealing with the "Ancestor Tree" and "Descendant Tree" functions. They don't function the way I would expect them to, even after having their operation explained. To me, the "ancestor tree" should be all direct ancestors of the selected individual, plus all spouses, siblings, and spouses of siblings (but not siblings or ancestors of spouses or descendants of siblings) of those ancestors, and the "descendant tree" should be all direct descendants of the selected individual, plus all spouses (but not siblings or ancestors of spouses) of those descendants. Are these terms ("ancestor tree" and "descendant tree") defined by general convention in genealogy, or are they specific to GenoPro?

Another thought that I just had regarding twins... will GenoProX allow us to distinguish between identical and fraternal twins? Or is there something already in the program that allows this distinction?
