I have to make a pretty detailed Genogram that has to be printed out. I have decided to just make the basic tree and then write it most of the details as it would be easier for me. I have a couple questions though that I cannot seem to find out for myself.
1) How do I add children to my Mate Only 2)How do I show that my Mate Adopted only ONE of my Children 3)How do I show that my Niece adopted my other Nieces child 4)how do I show that I am fostering my grandchildren Both 3 and 4 has to be done without changing the original family format. As in the children must remain under their biological parent group. anyone who may answer any of these, please answer as if you were speaking to a complete idiot as it has taken several days for me just to figure out what I have far LOL Thanks in advance for the help!

The key to all your questions is 'the family line'. In order to show adoption and fostering by a single adult who may be in a relationship it is necessary to add extta family lines to allow the adoption and fostering to be shown correctly.
Using the old adage 'a picture is worth a thousand words', perhaps the following will make things clearer, the numbers reflect your questions. The horizontal lines labelled 'adopt and foster are GenoPro 'family lines' but are styled and coloured to reflect their meaning. (I have set relation to 'other, unknown' to achieve the dotted line.). The Mate's child is also connected via a family line. I have chosen genders arbitrarily for yourself, your mate, your sibling and other children. I have attached the .gno for the above genogram

Could someone help me with creating a Legend or Key for my Genogram?

If you right-click on an empty space on a GenoMap you will find options to insert several pre-defined legends. The symbols and descriptions on these legends can be modified or added to in the same way as other objects on the GenoMaps.

Select the items you want to enlarge, right-click the selection, and click on Size / Enlarge in the menu, or select the appropriate size from the list. On this occasion it will also be useful to use AutoArrange Selection as this will space the selected items properly.

You can also enlarge or reduce the printout by changing the scaling of the genogram before printing. First select your printer and paper size using the File / Printer Setup menu item. Then adjust the scale (%) column and orientation using the File / Print Layout menu item. You will be able to see how the genogram fits to the page (or pages if tiled over several sheets) before printing.

Adding Children to Mate Only: Use a dashed line from your mate to the children to indicate they're only from your partner.
Adopted Child: A dashed line or a special symbol shows your partner adopted one of your children, with the biological parent line staying intact.
Niece Adoption: A dashed line with an adoption label between your niece and her adopted child shows the relationship.
Fostering Grandchildren: Use a dashed line or a different symbol for fostering, without changing biological parent connections.
I used to find good templates to construct genograms from Creately.

Hello,
I found a post with picture you created very helpful, but I do not know how to create a "family line" to show my stepdaughter. I also have a second question. I only have one custom tag that will show at a time. Can I display multiple custom tags on the graphic at the same time? |
