dzucherato (11/11/2005) But in individuals i don´t know why i can´t translate in any file.....Most of the text for the individual is found in the file Dictionary.xml. You can use Notepad to edit this file.

The main purpose of having the dictionary.xml file is to avoid editing the htm files.
So what you have to do is:
1) create a new folder and copy the content of the "English" folder (created by Genopro during the installation) into your folder
2) open the dictionary.xml file with a program suitable to handle your language.
3) replace the words or expressions within "____" with your language. (i.e. "mother" will be replaced in german with "Mutter"), there are many words you have to translate
4) more down the page you will find those phrases, which will describe your birth, etc.,
change those words into your language, observing language specific rules (grammar!)
This way you can create reports in almost any language without touching the htm files.
For japanese reports only a few specific things in other files had to be changed, but this is only for the time being (I hope)
Have done above with german and japanese.

Soon after releasing version 2.0, I will spend some time to improve the multi-language support, including tools to ease the translation.

Will the grammar specifics, such as "der/die/das", be done after the release of 2.0.
What I realized is that mainly the places and schools/institutions need to be specified as "f", "m" or "n" and then in the dictionary " in the" could be translated "in der or in dem". The same goes for "on the", "at the", "to the" and "in a", "on a", "at a" or "or "to a".
I think above is also valid for french. (or at least part of it)

maru-san (11/13/2005) Will the grammar specifics, such as "der/die/das", be done after the release of 2.0. Yes. The translation of GenoPro 2.0 is a high priority. Along this, I will write the code to have more flexible rules to define grammar specifics. Those features can be added and perfected after the release of v2.0.

Hi you all! I'm new in the forum, but I'm also working in the Portuguese (from Portugal) skin. Actually I'm done, although I could not solve many of the grammar dificulties. One question: - in Portuguese "only child" has a feminine and a masculine. If it´s a boy we say "filho único", if it's a girl we say "filha única". Does anyone know how can I solve this problem? I'm trying to get familiar with the language you use in the dictionary. xml and SVG, but I'm sure not the greatest informatic there is. thank you, Toasts

One question: - in Portuguese "only child" has a feminine and a masculine. If it´s a boy we say "filho único", if it's a girl we say "filha única". Does anyone know how can I solve this problem? Try this in your Portuguese skin template: Replace the Dictionary.xml lines <!-- 0=he|she, 1=is|was --> <PhOnlyChild T="{ }{\U}{0} {1} an only child." />
|
with <!-- 0=he|she, 1=is|was --> <PhOnlyChild_M T="{  }{\U}{0} {1} filho único." /> <PhOnlyChild_F T="{  }{\U}{0} {1} filha única." /> <PhOnlyChild_ T="{  }{\U}{0} {1} an only child of unknown gender." />
|
Sorry I can't translate the last phrase. and replace the following line in Code\Lang.vbs
Report.WritePhraseDic "PhOnlyChild", PnP(i), ToBe(i)
| with Report.WritePhraseDic "PhOnlyChild_" & i.gender.id, PnP(i), ToBe(i)

(Grabbing the opportunity to say - after a really long silence/absence from the forum - that I'm amazed by how wonderful the report is, as well as the web publishing module! - Thanks Dan!)
I can't wait for that! For those of us who are less capable of handling codes, this will be great. In this way, since our community is multilingual, we can all contribute and have a version 3.0 with a ready set of many languages. You can count on me for Greek.
Thanks again Dan.

Thanks again Dan. Ron did all the work for the narrative report. Without Ron, there would have never been such a nice report because my priority is to release GenoPro 2.0. Besides, I know only basic HTML and little scripting for web browsers.

You are absolutely right. My long absence from the forum made me scan the discussions hastily and Ron's great contribution slipped my attention. Many thanks to Ron too.

If I translate the "Dictionaries", when I make an update, will I gonna loose it or not?

The dictionary is an xml file part of custom skin. There is no danger of loosing any customization since GenoPro does not update custom skins.
