I have recently purchased the licensed program. I had previously generated a successful report, but the pictures were too large, so I removed them. I saved the cleared report, and it showed up just fine. I then created a new folder with lots of resized pictures which I now want to add to the report. Every time (and I must have tried at least 20 different ways and times) I try to add a picture from the new file, the program "encounters a problems and must close." Boom! There it goes again! I've tried the tools, but that hasn't helped. The program is such a wonderful way to generate a family tree that I really want to be able to work it successfully. Please help!

Two questions: 1. Which GenoPro version you are using? 2. Can you describe step-by-step what you are doing? I can't understand what you mean by "I try to add a picture from the new file"? Are you trying to add pictures to an individual in your family tree or to a report you created?

1. I am a brand-new GenoPro Beta, Version 2b15b user.
2. Last year someone (a nephew at college) introduced me to the free GenoPro, (I guess Version 1). I then created an extensive family tree (not a report) and inputted lots of data including pictures and sent it (including a CD of pictures) back to my nephew. During summer vacation, he returned and introduced me to the 30-trial version of the GenoPro. We were able to use that quite successfully. He had also generated a report and I was enchanted; however, he had to return to college, and I got busy with other things. During the winter break, we got together and purchased the Version 2b15b I mentioned. We discussed how to set up and publish our project, but we didn't try to revise the old files before he left. Since it falls to me to input the data, I resized all my pictures and put them in a new folder especially for the purpose of the GenoPro. Then I opened up the old file: no problem. It showed right up. Since I had deleted the large picture folder from my hard drive and created a new one, I knew that I needed to remove the old picture information and add new pictures. This is where the trouble began: I would get to the desired picture, it would even show up under the dialog box, and as soon as I clicked "open" the "gray box of terror" appeared to let me know that an error had occurred and the program needed to close. I sent the error message on, but have received no response.

an you try adding a picture to a completly new family tree? Create a new individual and try adding a picture to him. Is the program then closes?I do suggest sending your file by email to GenOpro at with the exact scenario that you are doing. If there is a bug, be sure that Dan will fix it!!

I tried generating a completely new Genomap. It accepted the names. Then I tried adding a picture and the program closed immediately.
Thanks for suggesting that I go to the big boss. I'll do that. Me

Somehow I muggled my way through and managed to restore the function of adding pictures.
1. I went back to the recycle bin and restored the original folder of large pictures to its original place.
2. Then I resized the pictures right within the folder.
3. Then I tried picking up one of the resized pictures and it worked.
4. Now and then one of the pictures didn't work, so I made sure to click "preserve full path" which helped tremendously.
5. I'm now redoing all the pictures and saving the .gno file after each one.
6. I'm also praying a lot

| I still suggest to send your file to Dan, describing all your actions. If there is a problem in GenoPro, I am sure that Dan will want to solve it.

I sent the error message on, but have received no response. I need to write the code to "send the error" to GenoPro. At the moment, the "send error" does sent the error to Microsoft. I would be very surprised if Microsoft give you a response ever. You are welcome to send me your family tree and tell me which picture is causing trouble. I will take a look at it and give suggestions (if any). By the way, are you aware of the tool to Rename Files / Move Pictures. This tool is located in the Tools menu and is useful to do mass renaming of multiple pictures. I wrote this tool for individuals who have moved their pictures to a different location (folder).

I've solved my problem by resizing all my pictures and adding them again. This was a little time-consuming, but at least it got the job done.
