This one could get a little complicated since many dates are partial, approximate, or relative.

Calendar controls pretty much mandate an actual date be chosen... so coding to handle things like:

2003
5/2003
5/17
<2003
>5/17/2003
~2003

... could become pretty cumbersome...

Also... calendar controls become far less useful if there isn't a very focused date range because you have to click through the years (hundreds of them???)... faster in those cases to just type the date.

I'm sure there are good reasons to have this control... and it's not a bad idea at all... I just don't expect to see it any time soon. I could be wrong. Wouldn't be the first time.
