I think this is a change from earlier versions but I may be thinking of some thing else.

Using the keyboard to enter children to a family (S/D) the focus ends on the family, not the child. It is then necessary to pick up the mouse to select the child, before pressing return, and continuing to add names etc.

Is there any reason for leaving the focus there, rather than on the addition?

Yes, it was requested by a doctor using GenoPro live during consultation.  When someone says he/she has 10 siblings, the doctor has to type only one letter to add a brother or sister.  I had conversations with other professionals using GenoPro during consultations, many requested a mechanism for grouping children together (for instance, adding 5 chindren in one operation).  I think pressing one keyboard key to add one child is a good compromise; it allows to populate a genogram in a few minutes.

Perhaps GenoPro could have an option in the preferences for the user to pick where the focus should go after adding a child.

Of course, options are always nice to have...they satiate a wider audience.

Personally, I have always found myself adding multiple children to a family after a session of research.  I like the option to of pressing S, D, D, S to add a son, daughter, daughter, son, without having to move mouse and click on the family.  So the change GenoPro made was welcome.

That would be great. I prefer to use the keyboard (2 fingers) and only use the mouse when this provides a better way of working. It is preferable to keep using one or other and not keep changing.

One thought for the present. Could the Tab key be used to move the focus to the newly added child?

The Tab key is already used to switch to another GenoMap.  I added the letter Q to select the last child.  You need Beta 18g for this.

Thanks for this. At first I did not see the connection between Q and child - until I looked at my QWERTY keyboard

I wanted to use the letter Z, but it is taken by the Zoom.  Almost all the letters on the keyboard are used by GenoPro.
