1) Enter the OCCUPATION tag

2) Fill in the WORK PLACE field with an absolutely new value

3) Press the DOWN-ARROW (on the right side of the WORK PLACE field)

4) Choose the NEW PLACE option

5) Fill in the place details

6) Press OK

) You receive the error message: "The place name must be unique. ..."

WHY ?

Pick a unique place name.  GenoPro does not allow two distinct places with the same name.

I think I am getting a similar problem when entering a new Occupancy Place on the Contact tab. Was going to be more specific & and will carry on experimenting but what sometimes happens is:

Add new Occupancy Place; use Ctrl-E to add a Parent Place and get the message ' Can not have two places with same name' (or similar)

Return to main screen with cancel and repeat the edit and it is accepted

One possiblity I need to explore is the position of the cursor. I often move out of GenoPro before making the edit and I think on return the cursor is at the beginning of the new place.

I will carry on with data entry and try to track down when this occurs

Is this possibly related to my previous post about places on the Contact tab being duplicated? Like, was additional uniqueness checking implemented since my post which now causes this error message to show up whereas when I tried it before, I just got two places with the same name? No one ever acknowledged that post, but I know I wasn't crazy!

Just had a simple example, shown here I typed in Low Heath - there was no such name in the list. Used Ctrl-E to add Parent. As the list appears quickly I missed Egdean first time and had to select it from the drop down list; click OK and get the error message. Cancelled and repeated the process and the edit was accepted.

To confirm this I then cancelled the edit and was able to reproduce the whole sequence

Dan
If you want to see this bug 'in action', open the familytrees.gno from my SussexSteers. Select any individual; open the Contact tab; enter 'Low Heath' (does not exist at that point); Ctrl-E for edit; tab to Parent place; type any letter and choose a place;

At this point when you click OK you get the message that 'There is already a place named 'Low Heath'...'

If you repeat the process the addition is accepted

This has been a long day... I had problems with many things, from having problems to reproduce the bug on a constant basis, to crashes in the Undo manager when doing a Redo operation.

I believe I fixed this bug, however let me know if you still get this error message.   I made a silent update at http://www.genopro.com/beta/InstallGenoProBeta18F.GZip.exe.  This version (Beta 18F) uses an upgraded compression library capable of bi-directional GZip compression with server GenoPro.com.  As a result, publishing to http://familytrees.genopro.com/ should be faster, however I have not tweaked the values.  At the moment, GenoPro uses small buffers for testing on-the-fly decompression as the TCP/IP packets arrives.

I also changed the way the report generator uploads the pictures to a report.  If the parameter _PathPictures is not present in Config.xml, then no pictures are uploaded.  This change was to prevent all the pictures from always being copied to the destination report.  Some reports may not want to include any picture.  If parameter _PathPictures does not exists, then the report generator assumes the report does not need (or include) any pictures.
