You cannot have any visible link between two GenoMaps.  What you can do is create the links on the same GenoMaps, and then move the individuals to another GenoMap.  GenoPro will remember the link, whatever it is a pedigree link, social relationship, or emotional relationship), however will hide it.  Another solution is to create hyperlinks of individuals so you can link them on the same GenoMap.

Hi,

I believe I have a similar issue.

If I want to move a couple to a new Genomap while leaving them both present on the original, I create hyperlinks to both individuals on the new page. If I then try to link them as a pair on the new page I just get jumped back to the original page. What I want to do is show the couple AND their relationship on two Genomaps with hyperlinks between them.

Also, creating a hyperlink to an individual generates a new permanent ID for each hyperlink, so my list of individuals for the whole file has an exaggerated total and several duplicate entries with different IDs.

I think I have just created the situation you want.
1 Create first family
2 Move one individual to second Genomap
3 Move second individual
4 Link as Mate

This created a second Family line on the second GenoMap. You can also go into the Properties of this family line and open the Summary tab and click the box 'Make Label/Exclude from Report' to stop the marriage being reported twice

OK Thanks,

So, I can recreate an existing relationship between two hyperlinked individuals and hide it from the report to avoid duplication- that's no problem.

But what about the change in permanent ID when you hyperlink an individual to another page? Surely the whole point of the permanent ID is that it is unique to the individual - so should it not go with them wherever you move them to?

Actually there is only one 'real' individual and it retains the same permanent id and all the data associated with that individual. The hyperlinked copy has its own ID and reference back to the 'data source' for the individual, i.e. the original individual. The hyperlinked copy has a limited set of properties, mainly the display properties so that you can have different display name and borders etc. between the two.

Note that when you use 'move to genomap' the selected individual is moved and a hyperlinked copy is left in its place (provide that it has connections on the original map). If you want to avoid this, leaving the original in place, then create a hyperlink on the same map by selecting the individual and pressing th H key. Then move the newly created  hyperlinked copy to the desired genomap.

Update: I have just discovered a bit of an issue here. If you move a 'real' inidividual to another map, leaving a hyperlink behind and then you delete that 'real' individual, the hyperlink then becomes the 'real' individual with all the data but does not take on the original permanent id.

Perhaps GenoPro should warn when you delete a 'real' individual that has hyperlinks and ask whether or not you wish to transfer the ID.

The transfer of the data of the 'real' individual is by design.  It is a good suggestion to ask to transfer the 'Permanent ID'.  I will think of a solution for this because the transfer of the data is done at a completely different level inside the code than the question for the user.  Remember that multiple hyperlinked individuals may be deleted at once, and all their data transfered.  Should GenoPro ask for each individual?

Another solution would be to use the Custom Tags to take care of such IDs.  Eventually the Tag Editor will allow the user to specify the tag data type, including an Automatic Identifier similar as a Database Identity Column.

In my view it would be sufficient to automatically transfer the 'real' or 'data source' individual's ID to the hyperlink that takes on the role of being the new 'data source'.

Hi!

When I attempt the "Link as Mate" on that second genomap, it kicks me back to the first genomap.

I am using the 2016 version of the software.

Any more ideas or clarifications?

"4 Link as Mate
This created a second Family line on the second GenoMap."  :-(
