I am trying to export a Genopro file from v 2.5.4.1
I want it as a gedcom file to read into Legacy, but the *.ged file has a lot of errors - seemingly mainly due to containing data about the position of an individual graphically on the Genopro chart.

Others clearly have a problem exporting GenoPro files, and looking at your forum, I decided to try the 'export via report generator' function.
I have downloaded the latest 'narrative report generator' (Narrative_2015.05.05.zip ), but using this also gives a VB runtime error.

Error at line 67 (default.htm): Invalid procedure call or argument: '[string: "(null)"]'
  1.     Microsoft VBScript runtime error 800A0005
I love GenoPro for its graphical interface, and have been using it, and telling others of it, for years -  but its usefulness is rather limited if data export fails.

I would appreciate your help.  Exporting via gedcom should be easy & straigtforward!

You need to use the Report Generator, as you have found. However you need to download the latest gedcom skin from http://support.genopro.com/Topic25071.aspx.
Advice on installing skins is at http://support.genopro.com/Topic30691.aspx

When you run the Generator you will need to use the new Gedcom skin, not the basic version which gives the errors you describe

Gedcom import will report data that it does not recognize as an 'error' but can normally be ignored. Treat it as information as to what is not used by the new program.

Many thanks, Appleshaw.

I got this working eventually (about 1 hour..., and I used to work in IT).

Could I just say that the website explanation was as clear as mud

Basically, you create a folder called - eg 'Skins'
You download & unzip a file called the 'latest narrative report' (??!?) into that folder
Then you update the contents of the 'latest narrative report' folder with an additional 'report skin'

It would be really, really helpful to have had this laid out clearly along with the Genopro help files.
Genopro is the only genealogy program I have ever come across with such a good graphical interface, and I use it all the time to work on different parts of my tree.
But why does such a basic thing as 'export as gedcom' have to be so complicated?

I'd like to respond with a couple of points here.

Firstly a number of different 'Reports' can be produced from your GenoPro data using the Report Generator. Each has its own Report Template or 'Skin'. These 'templates' aka 'skins' are held in their own folders below a 'skins' folder.  The forum post referred to in Appleshaw's post uses the Narrative Report 'skin' as an example, I will have to make this point clear in that post. So just to clarify further, there is absolutely no need to install the latest Narrative Report skin to perform an Export to Gedcom.

You do however need to download, install and run the latest 'Export to Gedcom' skin, reached via Apleshaw's first link.

Now a little history.  The original 'Export to Gedcom' facility built in to GenoPro (i.e. via File/ Export menu) was never 'fit for purpose' as it generates a proprietary format Gedcom that is solely concerned with preserving GenoPro data rather than transferring data via a standard format. Why GenoPro Inc, decided on this approach and never corrected the situation is unknown to me. However many years ago I, as a GenoPro customer, decided to write my own 'Export to Gedcom' facility using JavaScript and the GenoPro Report Generator that adhered to the Gedcom standard.  I continue to maintain and publish that 'skin' on this forum.  I have made many requests to GenoPro to provide better facilities for updating skins without success to date but live in hope that one day things will get easier for users such as yourself.

I know many users experience problem installing updated skins and I have asked for help on how the installation documentation on this forum could be improved but nobody to date has offered that help.  Note that I do not have update access to the GenoPro site and its Help pages.
