Another small problem, although I do not know whether it comes from the modifications I had to do or not.

1) If an individual has an outline border in the genogram, it shows only the upper line in the SVG file.

2) The text of one text box was shown in another text box on the same genomap, overlapping with the other text.

...my question is why it did not work in the first place in order to avoid the same situation when the next Beta comes.

When the function's behavior changes, the function name name is also changed.  This is by design.  It will happen until the official GenoPro 2.0 is released.  After Beta 16, some of the tags will be renamed to a more meaningful name.

I made a report with a small tree and the svg was brilliant, but when I did the same to my big tree the left and right extremities contained no entries even when I made the rectangle show up with a solid line, which it did completely, but still missing data inside it.

Are there some limits to the size possible?

I think I have already stated my view on this. The more objects you have in each genomap the slower the rendering will be when viewing the SVG graphic. Panning and zooming will become virtually unuseable as you approach 1000 individuals per genomap. I suggest you aim for a maximum of 200 individuals per genomap. I find around 100 individuals to be a workable number.

Even if you prefer to keep all your individuals in one huge genomap for maintenance purposes, I still strongly recommend that you break this down into smaller genomaps for web publishing purposes if you want to include the SVG genomap feature. GenoPro makes this an extremely easy task to complete, just by selecting a branch of a tree and moving them to a new genomap. Hyperlinks make navigation of multiple genomaps a doddle. I organise my tree into genomaps that can be printed on 2 A4 pages. This is also suitable for web publishing. With careful naming of each genomap I find maintenance is simplified as I can easily select the genomap concerned.

I also create an overview genomap, using hyperlinked dummy individuals and social relationships allowing me to navigate around the separate genomaps with ease. e.g. in my overview genomap below each block represents a separate genomap and clicking on a hyperlink allows me to display the related detailed genomap. In the target genomap I change the display name to 'Return ot overview' providing an easy understood link back to the overview.

Just downloaded Beta 15b and was trying to create a report.
Received following message:

Processing template 'genomap.svg'...
Error at line 520 (genomap.svg) : Type mismatch: 'PointsArray'
Microsoft VBScript runtime error 800A000D

Anything I should have done in my files?
Used the built-in templates from Beta 15b.
Still have problems.

Received following message when trying to create a report with my German skin, using the program Beta 15b:

Error at line 166 (genomap.svg) : Object doesn't support this property or method: 'Report.BufferWriteToTextFile'
Microsoft VBScript runtime error 800A01B6

The same message comes when I use my Japanese skin with Beta 15b.

Need help!
Got reports with SVG generation working for Beta 15 and 15b, however my question is why it did not work in the first place in order to avoid the same situation when the next Beta comes. (???)

I am puzzled by this. Firstly I can find no reference to 'PointsArray' in the Beta 15b version of genomap.svg at all. Secondly, my understanding is that the design intention is that any language dependent features be confined preferably to Dictionary.xml or failing that, be coded within lang.vbs.

It would seem that you were using the Beta 15b version of genopro.exe but with a beta 15 derived version of genopro.svg which is not compatible due to changes in methods and functions as Dan has already explained. However it should have been possible to carry forward your German and Japanese versions of Dictionary.xml and lang.vbs largely unchanged into the templates of Beta 15b. If this was not the case could you please elaborate.

Thanks Ron for your advice, though I haven't yet had enough courage to try using multiple genograms yet,  I obviously I must give it a go. My smaller trees should be fine.

Me too, but I downloaded the latest version again, since some modifications were made and it works fine now. This can be seen from the fact when I downloaded the first time the genomap.svg file was only 20 kb, the same file from Beta 15 was about 69 kb and now after my last download the same file is about 35 kb. The language was not the problem. As far japanese is concerned I will have to include "alternative names", but eventually also this will be taken off by Dan.

Anyway thanks for all your support and concern.

The function PointsArray was present in Beta 15 and was renamed to PointsToArray.  You see this error because you are using an old skin (template) on Beta 15b.

The size of the file genomap.svg shrunk by half because it was saved in Unicode.  I saved it in UTF-8 so I can use tools such as Windiff to compare the changes.  All editors can an UTF-8 file (even those not understanding Unicode) while a pure Unicode file can only be edited by Unicode aware editors.

Thanks again Ron,

I managed to get my head around multiple genograms which was simpler than I thought (as you had said!)

Now I must upload the new tree tomorrow ( my wallcharts are realy obsolete now so I might remove them next update! )

When creating reports from just one genomap, more places/locations and more pictures than actually used in that genomap are being recorded and copied. Any reason or how can this prevented?
