Hi Guys,

I've had a read through the posts on 'statcounter' and the information is insightful but not clear. I want to add the short bit of javascript code supplied by Google Analytics for my (independently hosted) site, to almost every page (individuals, families, sources, places, pictures, etc).

Without doing it manually on over a thousand pages, I figured the obvious way is to modify the various templates supplied in the skin of my choosing and used for generating the report. The question is then, there are approximately 20 or so templates in the standard skin, do I have to add the code to each one of them or to only 6 of them or is there a way to develop an 'include'?

Any guidance would be appreciated.

Thanks Nial:Wink:

Hi Guys,

I seem to have sorted it out on my own. For those of you who may have the same question I had, here is my solution that worked for me:

Modify the following files in the /skin folder for the skin you'll be using in your report. Simply add the code for Google Analytics to (index.htm, home.htm, individual.htm, family.htm, place.htm, source.htm, picture.htm, and entity.htm). Do not add the code to the default.htm file.

Enjoy.

Hi,
my apologies, I am neither a web site developer nor an IT professional. Would you be so kind to send me your English Narrative report including the necessary changes supporting Google Web Analytics (either via this forum or via email - see below)? Obviously replacing your exact code with a certain phrase, so I can just replace this phrase with my own code.
I would be very grateful if you can help me.
Kind regards
Martin

You must be registered for Google Analytics and can then proceed to the "Code Site"
It will provide the "cut and paste" solution you are looking for.
It will not work if you do not register with Google Analytics.

Nial - I just wanted to say thankyou for sharing this discovery! Like you I'm no developer, but I do have a customised version of the narrative report that I've gradually cobbled together, which has proved to be a problem given I have wanted to keep up with the recent developments to the official narrative report. Now I realise I can put many of my customisations of the templates and code into the skin folder thus layering it over the top of the official narrative report. I can see some challenges, and obviously quite a bit of testing each time the official version changes, but it might just work :-)

Looks like Google Analytics is something quite a few users would like to use on their sites.

It should be quite straight forward to add this as an option to the standard Narrative Report. I think all that is needed is to add Config Parameters for their Google Analytics Account reference (UA-XXXXXXXX-X) and optionally a domain suffix (for multiple sub-domains) and then add the required code to the relevant pages.

I'll get to work on this and report back soon.

I have added the Google Analytics option to Narrative Report skin 2011.05.13. It seems to be working but let me know if any problems.
