The Source 'Edition' field is visible in the the full Source / Citation Properties dialog. Tab into the single Source field on Contacts dialog and either press Ctrl & E or right click and choose Edit Source. Alternatively under the Contact Sources Tab click the Edit button when the correct Source is selected in the table at the bottom of the dialog.
I am happy to pick up the Publication date instead. Perhaps the logic should be : Use occupancy start/end date if identical (i.e. not date range) otherwise Source Edition if present otherwise Source Publication Date. This allows for 'proper' use of Publication date if required by anyone else.

Thanks for the introduction to the full Source / Citation Properties dialog.
Why are the contents sometimes different when viewed via Contact tab and Sources tab?
I have separately just found that there can be multiple instances of a Source Title in the drop down list with different data associated with them. This has been causing me much grief. How do I safely delete the unwanted instances and avoid causing data irregularities?

Sorry for the delay in answering, I have been busy on other matters.
Regarding the different presentations for the Source properties, I think the reason might be that the dimensions of the dialog windows is deliberately small as historically GenoPro can be be used on early versions of Windows with small screen resolutions, so in some dialogs with a table at the bottom fields are limited to the most common ones, but there is always a full Edit version available when required. To tidy up your multiple instances of Source/Citations you can use GenoPro's 'Delete' menu option available at the bottom of the ' Table Layout' Menu and select Source/Citations. When you select and delete an entry in that list GenoPro then prompts you for a substitute to replace references to that entry. p.s. Hope to have proposed revisions to ' Export to Gedcom' ready in a day or so.

Version 2014.05.05 is now available (http://support.genopro.com/Topic25071.aspx . Hopefully this improves export of census data.
You may do something similar already but the way I suggest to record Census Source is using a parent & child Source. The parent Source has the main Census title, e.g. UK Census 1891, with Media Type Census and now the date e.g. 5 Apr 1891 and I agree that Publication Date is probably the best field to use as the only available date field. Then each reference to this Census is a child Source holding the citation details. For Export to Gedcom to treat it as a citation it must have one or more of the three fields Where in Source, Quoted Text and Confidence Level. It can optionally have Title and Comments but no other fields. So put the reference in Where in Source e.g. RG12/1234/123/11 and any text transcribed from the entries in Quoted Text. An image of the census page can be added as a Picture.

Thank you for Version 2014.05.05 which I have used and now appears to be creating the desired CENS records rather than just RESI,
However, I am confused by your suggestion to use parent & child Census Source recordings and do not understand how that would work.
Originally, I stored relevant details as Comments for each individual but have now expanded into the available Source fields so that each source is now of the form . . .
Parent Source - 1891 UK Census Source Title/Name - RG12/345/67/89 Source Media Type - Census Citation Reference - Class: RG12; Piece: 345; Folio: 67; Page: 89; (for compatibility with output from Ancestry but a pain to input manually) Publication Date - 05/04/1891 Comments - 1891 census - Piece 345, Folio 67, Page 89 - living at Any Street, Any Town, Any County.
All other fields are normally blank. The Source Title/Name then links to the Source field under the Contact tab, where Occupancy Place is specified.
If I find that I have made an error/omission in some of the source specifications, any subsequent correction leads to a new source record being created rather than just an update of the existing record. If that source is already being used for other individuals in the family then the correction does not get promulgated. Should there not be an option for the user to choose which mode should apply?
