If I want to upload a report to the new GenoPro host service (http://familytrees.genopro.com/), I can't just upload files that have been changed since the last upload.

If I use the option "Resume/update",  it adds only new pages but do not update old pages which was modified. while generation a report I get the massage: "The option 'Resume / Update Report' is enabled - any existing output file will be skipped!"

Is it possible to make a mechanism to compare the files in my system to the files in the host server and upload just the modified / new files?

Update: a new "ftp client" tool has been released: http://www.genopro.com/help/ftp-client/

Just turn off this option. By default, GenoPro uploads the files to familytrees.genopro.com only if they have been changed.

The option 'Resume / Update Report' is good to resume a report after a connection failure (when you know the existing files are up-to-date).

Could someone clarify whether this "update changes only" feature is specific to the GenoPro hosting site (http://familytrees.genopro.com/). I would quite like the facility to send only new changes to my web server but by default the report generator sends the whole lot. I can send individual genograms but it then deletes all the others. I think the ability to send only files with updates/changes is a great option but I can't see how to do it on a site otehr than Genopro.

Yes, the feature to "update the changes only" is specific to http://familytrees.genopro.com/.  We designed our HyperData Protocol to have a built-in mechanism to detect and communicate what files have changed since the last publication.  Unfortunately, the 35-years old FTP Protocol (designed in 1971) does not allow this feature.

If you use the FTP protocol, you have to upload the whole report each time.

Not quite true, Many FTP clients have an option to upload only new or updated files. I use an old version of WS-FTP, WS-FTP LE 5.08 that is free for home use, and you can still download it. e.g. from http://www.freewareweb.com/cgi-bin/archive.cgi?ID=918. Generate your report locally and then publish to the Web separately using a suitable FTP client thats can send updates only.

It is true some smart FTP clients have those options, however the report generator produces brand new files each time a report is generated.  As a result, the FTP client will conclude those files are new and will upload them.  GenoPro uses a mechanism to compare the content of the files, ignoring the timestamps.  If two generated files have the same content, then they are assumed to be identical regardless if they have different creation an/or update times.

The good news is GenoPro Beta 15e (and beyond) uses this file content comparison feature when generating a report on the local disk to produce its report summary (number of files skipped, number of files unchanged, number of files written).  A smart FTP client will be capable to upload only the modified files from such report because GenoPro does not write any unchanged file to disk.
